Taufiq is a 23-month-old baby from Uganda. He is the first child of his parents, though his parents are currently separated. Taufiq and his mother live with his elderly grandmother, where his mother engages in small-scale farming and craftwork to earn income for her child’s needs.
For about two months now, Taufiq has been experiencing vomiting and a swelling in his groin region, that appears and disappears. Upon review, Taufiq was diagnosed with an inguinoscrotal hernia, a condition where abdominal contents protrude through a weak spot in the abdominal wall and extend into the groin and scrotum. He needs surgical treatment, but unfortunately his family is unable to afford the surgery.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Taufiq receive treatment. On October 30th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Uganda Martyr’s Ibanda Hospital. Now, Taufiq’s family needs help to fund this $201 procedure.
Taufiq’s mother says, “I thank God for enabling me to bring my child to Ibanda Hospital to seek treatment. I hope to get support for my child towards his operation. I will keep practicing farming after his recovery, so that I can continue taking care of my child.’’
