Ashirafu is a young boy from Malawi. His mother, Joana, is a soya and maize farmer. Ashirafu is not in school yet. He likes playing and eating any food available. When he was five months old, Ashirafu was diagnosed with a left inguinal hernia. This condition causes him pain and affects his mother's daily activities. As his mother had to take him to different hospitals, she has been unable to work regularly. Ashirafu was referred to our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center and was scheduled for hernia repair surgery on September 17th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, requests $575 to fund Ashirafu's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Ashirafu's mother said, "I am filled with joy that finally my son has been considered for treatment; I can't wait to see my son well again and start school afterward."

Sai Khan is a six-year-old boy who lives with his parents and his cousin in Karen State, Burma. Sai Khan's father is a soldier and his mother is a home-maker. His cousin is a day laborer. Their income often falls short of meeting their needs, so they rely on the local clinic at the internally displaced persons camp for free basic health care. Two years ago, Sai Khan started experiencing throat pain accompanied by occasional fever. Currently, his tonsils are swollen and red, causing him pain and discomfort when swallowing food. The swelling increases when he has a fever. Additionally, he struggles to open his mouth wide enough to speak without experiencing pain. Recently, Sai Khan was diagnosed with enlarged tonsils, which, if left untreated, could lead to persistent and potentially worsening symptoms. Due to his condition, he has temporarily stopped attending school. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund a tonsillectomy for Sai Khan, which is scheduled to take place on September 3rd. Surgeons will remove his tonsils, relieving Sai Khan of his symptoms and helping him get back to good health. Sai Kham's mother says, "I sent my son to school to study, but he struggles to read because he often complains of throat pain. Whenever he tries to open his mouth to speak or read, he says it causes even more pain. Once he finishes his treatment, I will support him in returning to school. My dream is for him to be an educated person."

Bi is a 62-year-old retired rice farmer from Kampong Cham province. She is married with one son, four daughters, and ten grandchildren. She lives with her husband and their third daughter, both of whom also work as rice farmers. At home, Bi enjoys cooking for her grandchildren and listening to the Buddhist radio station. About six months ago, Bi developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Bi has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Bi learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On August 12th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, Bi will be able to see clearly. Bi and her family are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment and need help raising $153 more to fund the procedure. Bi says, "I hope to see more clearly so that I can take my grandchildren to school and walk to the pagoda on my own."
