Vanna is a 25-year-old merchant from Cambodia. She is single, has four siblings, and lives with her parents. When she is not selling soft drinks at the market, she likes to play on Facebook.
One month ago, Vanna developed a chalazion in her right eye, causing her irritation, tearing, and redness. A chalazion is an inflamed cyst in a patient’s tear gland. She shared, “It is irritating me and makes it difficult for me to see clearly and get my work done.”
Vanna traveled to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, to receive treatment. On April 6th, surgeons will remove the cyst through a chalazion excision procedure. After recovery, Vanna’s symptoms should improve. She needs help raising $187 to fund this procedure.
“I hope that my eye will look and feel much better after my operation and I can continue to work at the market,” Vanna said.

She is no longer experiencing tearing and redness and feels more confident to go outside on her own and continue her work selling soft drinks at the local market. She can now also see her four siblings and parents clearly and will go on to live a healthier life.
Her mom said, “I feel very thankful to look at my daughter’s smiling face after her surgery. She is happy to go outside alone now and go back to selling at the market.”
