Meet Linda, an 18-year-old woman from Zambia who is eagerly expecting her first child. Linda is married to a tailor who works hard to provide for his family. He also owns a small piece of land with cows, chickens, and crops. Linda was very successful in school and hoped to become an accountant but an early pregnancy interrupted her career goals.
Linda is experiencing a difficult first pregnancy. She has lower abdominal pain, morning sickness, nausea and back pain, all of which is keeping her from her daily activities.
“We cannot save money to meet the required amount for Linda’s safe delivery and I am glad to hear that the Watsi team is willing to help my wife have a safe and healthy delivery,” say’s Linda’s husband. For $215, Linda will be able to deliver her baby in a health facility, with the support, staff, and resources she will need to keep herself and her new baby healthy.

Linda received the resources necessary to help her deliver her first born child safely.
However, seven months and one week into her pregnancy, Linda experienced severe lower abdominal pain and was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, despite her doctor’s best efforts, her son had intestinal herniation, a congenital birth defect, and passed away while on transit to higher level care. We are heartbroken to share this news, but we are committed to transparently reporting all outcomes to you - even the ones we wish were different.
