Luckenson is a six-year-old boy from Haiti. He is one of four children and his single mother supports the family by working as a housekeeper. Luckenson is very malnourished and has problems getting sufficient nourishment. He is six but weighs only ten pounds. His mother is sometimes unable to work because she needs to take care of him. For $900, we can fund a surgery that will consist of putting a tube in his stomach, allowing him to eat and get nourishment properly. Luckenson will be able to grow and to feed, so he can properly develop and have a healthy life!

Meet Soinize, a 50-year-old woman from Haiti who has a type of cancer in her eye known as squamous cell carcinoma. Because of this she has clouded retinas, partial loss of vision, and severe irritation. Soinize is in so much pain that she is often unable to sleep at night. Soinize's husband passed away, so she cares for her four children and pays for their schooling by herself. She washes clothes for her neighbors and sells goods on the street to earn some money, but it’s not enough to support her family and pay for her own medical treatment. To get the appropriate treatment for her cancer, Soinize will need to spend six weeks at a hospital in the Dominican Republic. She needs surgical intervention, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. With $1500 we can help support Soinize on her long journey to health.

Say hi to Rhema, a sweet four-month-old baby girl living in Uganda! Rhema lives with her parents and older siblings. Her mother, Nancy, stays at home with the children while her father works for the local government as a district counselor. Rhema was born with hydrocephalus, which is an excessive accumulation of fluid in the brain. This condition causes massive head size and "sun-setting" eyes, causing reduced vision. Without surgery, Rhema is likely to suffer brain damage due to the increased intracranial pressure. Rhema’s mother says, “we live and survive by the grace of God, baby included.” Let’s raise $1750 to help Rehma survive through an endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV). This treatment will relieve the fluid build up on her brain, allowing the swelling in her head to decrease. This will put Rhema out of danger of blindness and further damage to her brain.

Meet Ruth! Ruth is a five-year-old from Ethiopia. Ruth's mother and father are both government employees who work tediously to support their daughter. Ruth has a growing tumor on her arm. This condition is causing her severe pain and discomfort all the time. If this condition is not treated soon, her tumor may turn cancerous. Ruth hopes to become a "nice doctor" in the future! If Ruth receives treatment, her tumor will be removed and it will no longer cause her family distress. For $700, we can fund Ruth's treatment!

Thira is a 27-year old man living in Cambodia with his two daughters. He has been working on a fishing boat in Thailand since he was 15. One evening, while riding his motorcycle along the coast, Thira got into an accident and broke his left arm. He was unable to afford treatment in Thailand, so he sought treatment from his village healer in Cambodia. Unfortunately, the treatment was unsuccessful and now Thira is unable to use his arm. $300 will cover the costs of a surgery to align the bone in his arm. Your donation will restore function in Thira’s left arm and reduce his pain.

Meet Linda, an 18-year-old woman from Zambia who is eagerly expecting her first child. Linda is married to a tailor who works hard to provide for his family. He also owns a small piece of land with cows, chickens, and crops. Linda was very successful in school and hoped to become an accountant but an early pregnancy interrupted her career goals. Linda is experiencing a difficult first pregnancy. She has lower abdominal pain, morning sickness, nausea and back pain, all of which is keeping her from her daily activities. “We cannot save money to meet the required amount for Linda’s safe delivery and I am glad to hear that the Watsi team is willing to help my wife have a safe and healthy delivery,” say’s Linda’s husband. For $215, Linda will be able to deliver her baby in a health facility, with the support, staff, and resources she will need to keep herself and her new baby healthy.

Davidson is a two-year-old little boy whose single father wishes to see him grow up healthy and strong. After being born with a cleft lip and palate, birth defects that occur when a baby’s lip and mouth do not form properly during pregnancy, Davidson had a hard time breastfeeding and taking in liquids because the fluid would pass through the opening in his mouth into his nostrils. Fortunately, Davidson was able to receive surgery to repair his lip, which is often the first half of the full course of treatment for this condition. Now he needs our help to complete the second half of his treatment, fixing his palate! The doctors expect that after this procedure, Davidson will be able to eat normally and live a healthier life. Davidson’s father is excited to see his son well again and is already making plans for the future, like sending him to school.
