Virginia is an 80-year-old preacher from Kenya. She is a mother of six, but sadly, three of her children have passed away.
Two weeks ago, Virginia was taken to AIC Kijabe Hospital after she was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident. When she arrived, she had lost her memory, was confused, and could not remember what had happened to her. She had sustained severe injuries to her head and face and urgently underwent a craniotomy to save her life. With no identification documents and no one initially knowing where she was from, Virginia remained unidentified.
Meanwhile, her children had been searching for her and had reported her missing. Their search finally came to an end when they saw her picture distributed on social media, and rushed to the hospital to see her. At the time, Virginia had already accumulated a growing hospital bill that needed to be paid out-of-pocket.
Despite surviving the accident, Virginia still has a long road to recovery. Her children are deeply worried about their mother, but their limited financial resources have left them unable to meet the cost of the surgery and her growing hospital bill. They are reaching out for support to help Virginia receive another surgery she needs, to regain the ability to eat normally, and take an important step toward healing and returning to the life she knew before the accident. Currently, she is being fed through a tube because she is unable to chew or eat normally.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. Virginia sustained a severe fracture to her jaw and urgently needs an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgery to repair it, and restore the function of her mouth. The surgery is scheduled for September 3rd, and Virginia’s family needs your help to fund the $1,115 procedure.
“It was heartbreaking to see my mother in so much pain and unable to remember me. I pray she makes a full recovery and can return to her regular life,” Virginia’s daughter shared.
