Baguma is 74-year-old farmer who lives and farms with his wife. Together they cultivate food for home consumption and for sale, if yields permit. Unfortunately, Baguma has been unable to work for the past four months due to his medical condition.
For about two years, Baguma has been experiencing a swelling in his left inguinal region. The swelling initially did not cause him pain, but it continued to grow with time. Baguma visited a nearby clinic for treatment, however the swelling still continued to increase in size. Eventually, he became unable to bend, lift heavy things, and work in his garden. He was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, which, if left untreated, may cause intestinal tissue damage.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund hernia repair surgery for Baguma. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 28 and, once completed, will hopefully improve Baguma’s mobility and allow him to live more comfortably.
Regarding his post-surgery plans, Baguma says, “After surgery I will resume farming.”
