Kihunde is 25 years old, and a single mother of one child living in Uganda.
Her two-year-old baby girl was delivered by cesarean section (C-section) because the baby was too big for a natural delivery.
Kihunde is now pregnant again. She has to deliver by C-section because of her previous scar, but she is unable to pay for her surgery. She is not yet in labor but she has pain on the incision. If Kihunde does not have the surgery, she may suffer a ruptured uterus.
Currently she is not working anywhere but she is looking for a job. Her father passed on and her mother doesn’t have money to support her. Kihunde is living with her grandmother who is supporting her almost in everything.
The elective C-section will cost $270, and will allow Kihunde to deliver her baby ensuring the safety of herself and her newborn.
After completing school, Kihunde started a certificate course in journalism. She dropped out of the course due to a lack of funds, and started working with Gold FM Radio as a volunteer. When she became pregnant with her first child, Kihunde stopped working at the radio station. After surgery and recovery, she plans to continue looking for a job so that she can be able to support herself.
