“Dipa lives with her son and daughter-in-law who tend to the farm to keep the family going,” says our medical partner, Possible. After a bad fall, the 65-year-old woman from Nepal was recently accompanied by her grandson to Possible’s clinic.
“Dipa fell off the stairs in her house and ended up fracturing her left wrist,” Possible tells us. “She has been in pain since and the area of injury has swollen too.”
$579 covers the cost of Dipa’s orthopedic surgery to treat her wrist fracture. Dipa will receive an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) operation to reset her broken bones and place them into position using metal rods and screws. This two-step procedure will allow her bones to heal in their normal position without complications.
Following surgery, Dipa will remain in the hospital for an additional four days, where she will receive several sessions of physiotherapy.
“Joints hurt in old age anyway and now I have a fracture,” Dipa shares. “I just want to go back home and rest.”

Dipa received treatment for her broken wrist.
“Dipa’s fractured bones were aligned correctly and secured,” shares our medical partner, Possible. “Post surgery, Dipa will experience some pain but it will be under control with medication. Dipa will be in bed rest for at least two weeks. She will have to do physiotherapy exercise to regain mobility. She cannot carry any weight by the fractured hand for one month.”
“In the 2nd month she will learn to carry partial weight by the injured hand,” Possible continues. “Within two months she will regain most of her mobility back. This is a crucial time for Dipa; she needs to do all her physiotherapy exercises even though it may cause some pain initially. This could determine how much mobility she regains.”
“It seemed like some fate of illness had struck me. Now I will rest idly for the next few weeks,” Dipa shares.
