Ibrahim is in the fourth grade. Growing up in Tanzania, it’s no surprise that he loves soccer. Despite the fact that he was born with club foot, a condition which causes his foot to angle inwards and makes it painful for him to walk or run, Ibrahim loves playing soccer with his friends and wants to be able to keep up with them.
Ibrahim’s condition is easily treatable. His doctors say that simple surgery will rectify his malformation and allow him to play soccer, walk, and run normally. They caution that if left untreated, he could develop a painful condition called osteoarthritis. But Ibrahim’s parents are small-scale farmers and cannot afford the $700 procedure.
Ibrahim wants to lead an active life. “I would like to work one day as a hunter,” he says. With our support, Ibrahim will have access to the medical care he needs to walk, run, and be mobile like everyone else.
