Emmanuel is a student from Tanzania. He was diagnosed with genu valgus. His legs bow inward so that his knees touch. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $940 to fund corrective surgery for Emmanuel. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 4. Treatment will hopefully restore Emmanuel's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Emmanuel says, “My legs hurt a lot when I walk please help me have my legs treated.”

Bernard is a young boy from Kenya. Since birth, Bernard has had an umbilical hernia. This hernia causes him pain and if not treated, it may result in intestinal tissue damage. Fortunately, on August 2, he will undergo repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $423 to fund Bernard's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably.

Remedan is a baby from Ethiopia. He loves to play and laugh with people. He loves food. Remedan was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Remedan is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his condition on May 14. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Remedan's procedure and care. After his recovery, Remedan will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future.

Glory is a child from Tanzania. She is the youngest in a family of two children. She loves to play with other kids. Since early last year, Glory has been experiencing difficulty breathing and eating. She was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $633 to fund a tonsillectomy for Glory, which is scheduled to take place on December 13. Surgeons will remove her tonsils, hopefully relieving Glory of her symptoms and helping her live more comfortably. Glory’s mother says, “She has been suffering since last year but I couldn’t afford the surgery cost to help her. Please help my daughter get the needed surgery.”

Ghati is a primary school student from Tanzania. She is the third born in a family of five children. She loves studying Swahili and science. Her mother sells sugar canes and sugarcane juice at the side of the road in town. Ghati’s father is a fisherman. Ghati has clubfoot of her left foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Ghati traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on August 15. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $890 to fund Ghati's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be able to walk easily. Ghati says, “I cannot wait to be back to school and show my friends that I am able to walk normal.”

Sopheak is a fourth grade student from Cambodia. He enjoys studying mathematics and science. He wants to be a banker when he grows up. He likes to eat fried pork and play football with friends. Five months ago, Sopheak had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his left ear to perforate. For this reason, Sopheak experiences ear discharge, pain, and tinnitus. He cannot hear clearly and has ear pain. Sopheak traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 1, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. His mother says, "I worry about my son's hearing."

Panha is a second grader from Cambodia. She has four sisters and one brother. She likes to draw, watch TV, and play with her friends outside. When she was three months old, Panha had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, Panha experiences left ear discharge, hearing loss, and tinnitus. She cannot hear clearly and has difficulty listening and focusing at school. Panha traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On April 5, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Her mother says, "I hope my daughter's hearing can improve and she can return to school soon."

Tukamuhebwa is a primary teacher from Uganda. She is married with three children, all of whom are studying in secondary school and university. Her husband is a business man. For the past year, Tukamuhebwa has been experiencing severe abdominal pain and other troubling symptoms. She has been diagnosed with uterine myomas. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $208 to fund Tukamuhebwa's surgery. On January 11, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Tukamuhebwa will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Tukamuhebwa says, “I hope to be relieved of this condition and continue with my profession of teaching.”

Ty is a six-year-old boy who likes ice cream, cookies, and Khmer food. His favorite subject is Khmer. He likes to play with toys and watch cartoon network. When he is older, he wants to be a teacher. For two months, he has had enlarged tonsils, causing snoring and difficulty in swallowing. He will need a tonsillectomy in order to improve his symptoms. Fortunately, Ty visited our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on January 9. His family needs help raising $221 to pay for surgery. He says, "I want to improve my swallowing."

Bedasa is a baby from Ethiopia. He is a smiley toddler who loves to play and laugh with people. His parents are traditional farmers. He is the fourth child in their family. Bedasa was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Bedasa is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his condition on November 17. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Bedasa's procedure and care. After his recovery, Bedasa will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future. Bedasa’s mother says, “It is our hope to get the surgery and to see our child in a healthy and good position by your support.”
