Tumwesigye is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is married with eight children. 29 years ago, Tumwesigye began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath and painful swelling. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tumwesigye receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 29 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money. Tumwesigye says, “I hope to recover from this long standing condition and I continue with cultivation.”

Khortichas is a 36-year-old potato farmer from Cambodia. She has four children and in her free time she likes to cook for her family, take care of the housework, and watch television. In 2016, Khortichas was involved in a motorcycle accident, fracturing her lower left leg. She went to Calmette Hospital where doctors fixated hardware to help align and heal the fracture. Now, the hardware is causing her discomfort and she has pain and cannot work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 9, Khortichas will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $214. This procedure will help to relieve the pain and allow her leg to heal so she can walk normally. She says, "I hope that my surgery will be successful and the hardware will be removed so I can go back to work and walk normally."

Ly Pov is a secondhand shoe seller from Cambodia. He has one son and one daughter, and enjoys watching Khmer boxing on television in his free time. Five months ago, Ly Pov developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision, tearing, and photophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Ly Pov learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On August 1, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $211 procedure. He says, "I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to see clearly again and can return to helping my wife sell shoes."

Rachna is a girl from Cambodia. She is an only child from Svay Reang province, four hours from Phnom Penh. Since May 2019, Rachna has had a sinus infection on the right side and underwent surgery at Angdong Hospital in order to drain the sinus, but her condition did not improve. Rachna experiences a fever and swelling of her sinus, as well as pus and drainage from her nostril. Surgery will help to relieve the pressure in her sinus and and drain the pus from her nose so she can breathe normally and comfortably again. Surgery is scheduled for July 15 and will cost $286. Rachna enjoys spending time paying with her toys and watching cartoons on television.

Tang is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has one brother and two sisters. She likes to watch TV and listen to music in her free time. Five years ago, Tang had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Tang experiences discharge, tinnitus and hearing loss. She has ear pain and difficulty hearing. Tang traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On January 2, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope that my ear heals soon and I can return to work."

Kakazi is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is married with four children. Kakazi has had a swelling on her right knee for a long time. She traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On January 9, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Kakazi needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Kakazi says, “I hope to get better quality of life and continue with cultivation after surgery.”

Yon is a farmer from Cambodia. She has one daughter, three sons, and four grandchildren. She likes to listen to news on the radio. A year ago, Yon developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, irritation, itchiness, pain, clouded lenses, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Yon learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On January 9, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope my eye surgery is successful so I can return to work."

Sareth is a housewife from Cambodia. She has two daughters, two sons, and ten grandchildren. She likes to watch Thai dramas on TV. Two years ago, Sareth developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, itchiness, tearing, and clouded lenses. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sareth learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for ten hours seeking treatment. On January 9, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope my vision is clear so I can cook and take care of my grandchildren."

Ea is a farmer from Cambodia. She has one daughter, four sons, and ten grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio. A year ago, Ea developed entropion of the eyelids. This means that her eyelids turn inward, causing her eyelashes to scrape the surface of her eyes. It is difficult for her to open her eyes and see clearly Ea traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On January 8, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a corrective procedure to repair her eyelids. Now, Ea needs help to raise $212 to fund this procedure. Her son says, "I hope my mom's vision improves so she can recognize our faces again."

Meet Aung, an eight-year-old boy from Burma! Our medical partner, Burma Border Projects (BBP), tells us, "Aung really enjoys school and likes studying; he says that he would like to become an eye doctor when he grows up.” Aung has been fighting cancer and previously had his eye removed to prevent tumor spread. The tumor has now spread to his eye socket and needs to be removed. "The tumor currently causes Aung physical and mental discomfort," BBP explains. "After his eye was removed it was hoped that his condition would improve, however, the spread of the tumor has been very difficult for him and his mother. It is physically painful and also causes him a headaches and becomes tired easily." For $1,500, Aung will receive the necessary surgery to remove the tumor. Aung’s mother says, “I really want my son to continue with his education – I never had the opportunity and have had to work a physically difficult job my whole life. I am completely determined to get him treatment no matter how many surgeries he needs.” Let’s help Aung get healthy again!

Say hello to Elmica, a two-year-old girl from Haiti. Elmica was born with a cleft lip and palate, a common birth defect which prevented Elmica's from forming properly. "She has difficulties eating normally," Project Medishare tells us. When Elmica was a little younger, her mother took her to a hospital in the countryside where they live to see if she could get care. The hospital did not have a plastic surgeon so nothing could be done at that time. Elmica's family is very hopeful that she will receive care. And with $960 from us, they will be able to afford the cleft lip and palate repair surgery she needs. Let's make it happen!

This is one-year-old Fafane from Haiti. She lives with her mother and grandmother while her father is still in school. Fafane was born with a cleft lip and palate which has made it difficult for her mother to breastfeed -- and feed -- her. Luckily, our partner, Project Medishare, is ready to help. With $960 they will be able to do a cleft lip and palate repair surgery for Fafane. This will make it easier for her to eat, among other things. "I am excited," says Fafane's mother. Together we can put Fafane's parents at ease and improve the quality of this baby girl's life moving forward. Let's do it!
