“I am still in primary school while the rest of my first year classmates are now in secondary school," Jackline says. "I had to repeat classes because of frequent illness. I pray for complete healing so that I can fully go to school and later on become a teacher.” This is Jackline, a 13-year-old from Tanzania who's in the sixth grade. Jackline likes history, geography, and math classes. She also enjoys playing netball with other students at school. "Jackline has been complaining of painful and gassy stomach due to Hirschsprung's disease," her doctors write. Hirschsprung's disease is a blockage of the large intestine due to improper muscle movement in the bowel. It is a congenital condition, which means it is present from birth. "Sometimes she can stay up to a week without passing stool," they continue. Jackline's parents are small scale farmers who mainly grow maize and beans. They can't pay for the procedure she needs, but for $1200 we can fund an abdominal perineal pull through and colostomy closure to help Jackline get healthy and succeed in school.

John is 38 and lives in Kenya. Last year, he was assaulted with a machete, and his right arm was seriously injured. He has had two surgeries but is still not able to move his right hand due to extensive tendon and nerve damage. John was married for four years, but after his injury he was no longer able to provide for his wife, so she left. John now lives with his parents, who are small scale farmers. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, tells us, "John feels saddened that he is forced to depend on his elderly parents instead of him supporting them." John adds, "I want to get well and be able to work again." Before his injury, he had a job at the local bus terminus. Nassoro is a friendly and talkative eight-year-old boy who lives with his mother and two siblings in Tanzania. Nassoro was born with severe varus deformities in both of his legs, causing his knees to knock into one another whenever he walks. Despite the pain this causes, Nassoro walks to school every day where he loves to draw, play card games, and dig around outside. Nassoro’s mother is a skilled cook and sells enough food to care for Nassoro and his two siblings. Although she is eager for Nassoro to get better, she cannot afford the medical treatment Nassoro will need to help him walk for long distances. “I just want my legs to be straight so that I can be tall and play football with the rest of the students in school,” Nassoro says. For $555, Nassoro will have surgery on his legs to repair his gait so that he can walk and run free from pain and without the risk of developing premature osteoarthritis. Together we can make sure that Nassoro is grow, be active and play football whenever he wants.

Stephanie is a smart 12-year-old from Kenya who loves to write and wants to be an author when she grows up. Several years ago, Stephanie's parents passed away, leaving her and her two siblings to live with their aunt and uncle in Kenya. Because of this, family has been very important to Stephanie and she would like to be able to have a family of her own someday. Stephanie was born with internal female reproductive organs and ambiguous genitalia. In order for Stephanie to be able to conceive when she is of childbearing age, she will require a genital operation so that she can give birth. Stephanie's family is very supportive of her health needs and has raised what money they can for her medical care but they cannot afford the cost of this surgery. For $1500, Stephanie will receive a vaginoplasty. This operation will allow Stephanie to feel comfortable with herself and pursue her dreams of becoming an author and, someday, a mother.
