Iloveda is a young woman from Haiti. She lives on an island off the west coast of Haiti with her parents, who are both farmers. Iloveda is in the seventh grade in school, and would like to be a nurse or a teacher when she grows up. Iloveda has a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot, in which a hole exists between the two lower chambers of the heart and a muscular blockage prevents adequate blood flow through one of the valves. This condition leaves her sick and short of breath, and would eventually be fatal. Iloveda will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On May 8, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will close the hole with a patch, and remove the muscular blockage. Another organization, HeartGift Foundation, is contributing $20,000 to pay for surgery. Iloveda's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Iloveda's family overseas. She says, "I am excited to have a healthy heart and to do everything I want to do without getting tired!"

Bedasa is a baby from Ethiopia. He is a smiley toddler who loves to play and laugh with people. His parents are traditional farmers. He is the fourth child in their family. Bedasa was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Bedasa is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his condition on November 17. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Bedasa's procedure and care. After his recovery, Bedasa will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future. Bedasa’s mother says, “It is our hope to get the surgery and to see our child in a healthy and good position by your support.”

Robert is a 68-year-old farmer from Malawi. He raises goats and runs a small maize farm. He lives with his wife, and they have eight children and ten grandchildren. When not tending his crops and animals, Robert likes to spend time with his wife. Since 2013, Robert has had difficulty urinating. Doctors have recommended prostate surgery to restore his urinary function. On March 28, Robert will undergo the prostate surgery he needs to be healthy. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund the surgery. Robert and his family are very happy that he will now get his surgery!

Sina is a 5-month-old boy from Cambodia who lives at home with his mother and sister. Sina was born with a left clubfoot, which is a congenital deformity in which a newborn's foot is twisted out of shape. Because of Sina's condition, his parents worry that Sina will be unable to walk properly when he grows up. Sina is scheduled to undergo an Achilles tendon lengthening procedure on June 9 at our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. This surgery involves extending Sina's Achilles tendon and applying a cast in order to stabilize and reorient his foot. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $304 to fund Sina's foot surgery, X-rays, and hospital care. With proper treatment, Sina can hope to walk easily as he grows to become a strong and healthy young boy.

Neo Mark is a happy and active 21-year-old young man who lives in the Philippines. He was able to finish high school and trained for automotive repair. He started working right after school to help provide for his family. Two years ago, he developed pain in a sensitive area. He was no longer able to work, and he could not lift heavy objects or walk long distances. He was diagnosed with a hernia and advised to have surgery. However, he was not able to undergo the advised treatment due to financial problems. Now, Neo Mark stays at home with his mother and helps with simple household tasks. For $1,098, we can fund a hernia repair surgery that will correct Neo Mark's hernia. This will relieve his pain and make it easier for him to work again. Neo Mark is scheduled for surgery on March 24. With our help, he'll be able to help support his family once again.

Danis is an 18-year-old boy. He is the third-born of eight children. His family members are traditional pastoralists who look after animals with a small area of crops. Danis was born with a mild right clubfoot, or twisted foot, and his family was unable to seek treatment for the condition. Recently, a missionary told them that it is possible for Danis to walk without pain and that his foot can be fixed to a normal position. The family traveled to our medical partner's care center. Danis will undergo foot surgery on February 3. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,160 to fund this treatment. After his treatment, Danis would like to join his brothers in looking after the livestock. Danis says, "I'd like my feet to be straight so that I can wear shoes and walk properly."

Bengrong is a 55-year-old rice farmer. She has two sons, one daughter, and five grandchildren. Bengrong likes to go to the pagoda to listen to monks pray and join ceremonies. She also likes to read books. One year ago, Bengrong developed a cataract in each eye, which has resulted in blurred vision and tearing. It is difficult for Bengrong to work or go anywhere by herself, and she is worried about going blind one day. Bengrong traveled for three hours with her son-in-law to reach our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment. After a cataract surgery and lens implant in each eye, Bengrong will be able to see clearly again. Bengrong says, "I hope to see more clearly than now, so that I can work, cook, and read easily." CSC is requesting $292 to fund the cataract procedure.

Saw Ku is an 18-year-old student. Four years ago, he developed a tiny growth on his cheek that was not painful or sore. However, the growth grew more serious with time. After investigative testing, he was referred to our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF). Currently, the mass on his cheek is itchy and uncomfortable. It prevents him from washing his face and sleeping on his side. Furthermore, it also causes him to feel social anxiety. Fortunately, Saw Ku will undergo a mass removal procedure on February 14. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to fund this treatment. Saw Ku says, "I want to finish my Bible school and become a pastor."

Kusemererwa is a 38-year-old father living in Uganda with his wife and children. Three of his children are in primary school. Both Kusemererwa and his wife are farmers who grow beans, potatoes, and groundnuts for their family. Whenever possible, they grow cabbage and eggplants to sell. Five years ago, Kusemererwa developed a swelling in his left groin region. The swelling causes him back pain and tightness, which makes it difficult for him to bend over or work. “I have a big swelling that is on and off, and sometimes I feel backache,” he says. He has been unable to afford treatment in the past, but recently he learned about Watsi and visited our medical partner's hospital, Holy Family Virika Hospital. At the hospital, Kusemererwa was diagnosed with a left scrotal hernia. A hernia occurs when an internal organ pokes through the muscle wall, causing severe pain. Left untreated, a hernia can cause intestinal blockage or prevent blood from reaching vital parts of the intestines. Kusemererwa's doctors recommended surgical intervention to remove the bulging tissue in his abdomen and reposition his herniated tissue. This procedure is scheduled for December 28, 2016. The total cost of the procedure is $249, which covers supplies, medications, and three days of inpatient care. After surgery, Kusemererwa hopes to continue farming to pay for the education of his children. He will be able to work without pain or discomfort.

Monica is a 29-year-old mother from Uganda. She and her husband, Rauben, live in a small village near our medical partner's hospital, Bwindi Community Hospital. They have two children. Both Monica and Reuben are subsistence farmers who grow tea, cassava, beans, and groundnuts. Monica also rears chickens. In her free time, she enjoys participating in the village women’s group. Monica visited our medical partner's hospital when she was pregnant with her third child. She was considered a high-risk pregnancy. On November 7, she checked into the hospital for antepartum and postpartum monitoring to ensure a safe delivery of her child. Though she and her husband are paying $8 for her treatment, they need help to pay her remaining $241 medical bill. Monica hopes that all her children grow up healthy and receive an education. “I am very grateful to the sponsors for helping me have a delivery at the hospital," says Monica. "God bless you all so much!”

Meet Hoseah, a five-year-old boy from Kenya with one younger sibling. Hoseah was born with an uncomfortable condition in a sensitive area that disrupts his urinary function. When he visited our medical partner, Hoseah had already undergone several surgeries to treat his condition. On November 16, he underwent a final corrective surgery at our medical partner's hospital, BethanyKids Kijabe Hospital. Hoseah's father supports the family by working as a clerk. Recently, he has had to take out loans to pay for his son's treatments. He needs help to fund this final $700 procedure. “I want my son to be healthy like his peers and be confident when he grows up," says his father.

Byamukama is a 25-year-old single man from Uganda. He went to school up to Primary Three and dropped out because of lack of money. He is a casual laborer who does any work that is available in order to earn some money. After surgery he plans to work hard, get capital, and start a business so that he can earn money and be self-reliant. Byamukama developed a swelling in his right inguinal area a year ago. He reported his condition to the hospital, was given medicine, and was advised to have surgery, but he didn’t have the money. He is still looking for money or ways to get assistance. The pain on his swelling is on and off but when he is in pain it becomes hard for him to stand up straight, walk well, or lift heavy items. If not treated, Byamukama is likely to suffer many complications. "When I am in pain, I feel restless and helpless," explains Byamukama. For $249, Byamukama will undergo hernia repair surgery at Holy Family Virika Hospital in Uganda. After surgery, the swelling will be reduced and he will be relieved of his pain.
