This is Melvin, a 15-year-old motivated student from a rural village in Kenya. Our medical partner, Lwala Community Alliance, shares “Melvin’s mother runs a small business selling vegetables, tomatoes, onions, and small fish while her father fully depends on farming to provide for the family.” Melvin is the sixth born child in her family of eight siblings, and will be sitting for her primary education final exam towards the end of next year. Recently, Melvin found out that she is pregnant, but her family cannot afford the full cost of treatment. With the pregnancy, she has been experiencing abdominal pain during the evening hours and back pain throughout the day. Melvin says, “I hope to be provided with a safe delivery at a health facility and to continue with my schooling so I can have a better future and give back to my community and parents.” We can help Melvin have a safe delivery for $290! Lucy is a 52-year-old mother of two children in Kenya. She and her children work as farmers. At the beginning of this year Lucy developed uterine fibroids, noncancerous growths which cause a swelling of the abdomen, fatigue, heavy bleeding, and severe pain. Lucy is a very social woman but has been hesitant to be seen in public because she is afraid of appearing pregnant to others. Fortunately, a total abdominal hysterectomy can remove the growths and return Lucy to good health. Lucy can not afford this treatment on her own but remains optimistic about the support available to her. She says, "For a long time now, I have been trying to raise money without success. Through God’s grace, I believe Watsi is going to help me and I pray that God will bless them too. I hope to be healthy again to be able to care for myself and be there for my children." Say hello to Manjese, a sweet five-year-old girl who lives with her aunt in Tanzania. She's shy, but eager to jump in and play silly games with other kids at school. Her aunt, a devoted nursery school teacher, supports Manjese on her own and treats her like her own daughter. “Even though Manjese has not come out of my womb, she is my daughter and I adore her,” her aunt says. Manjese has trouble walking because of a deformity called bilateral genu varus. Both of her legs show progressive bowing, making it difficult for her to walk correctly. Doctors say if untreated, she may develop early osteoarthritis, a form of arthritis usually found in elderly patients. The tibial osteotomy and serial casting Manjese needs will cost $555, and allow her to walk with ease and prevent early osteoarthritis
. Her aunt tells us that she hopes to see Manjese walk to school with strong, healthy strides: “I feel blessed to have [Manjese] around and I would like to see her able to walk properly and continue to go to school like other children.” Let's make sure little Manjese receives the treatment she needs!

Ramita is a two-year-old girl who has been unable to say her first words. Ramita was born with ankyloglossia, often called "tongue-tie," a congenital anomaly that can affect speech, feeding, and oral hygiene. Because of her condition, Ramita cannot speak, feels discomfort in her tongue, and has trouble eating. Her mother is very worried about her only child’s speech development, but the cost of surgery is out of reach for Ramita’s parents. Her mother does agricultural work and her father works in India to support the family. With your help, Ramita can receive the $965 surgery she needs to live a healthier life and let her voice be heard!

Aspara is a 35-year-old single mother from Nepal who works hard to provide for her family of four. Recently, while Aspara was collecting wood, she fell from a tree and injured her spine. Aspara is in severe pain and completely immobile. If she doesn't receive surgery, she will be handicapped the rest of her life and unable to provide for her family. Aspara cannot afford the treatment she needs, but with the support of Watsi donors, Nyaya Health can arrange for her to have surgery in Nepal's capital. For $1500, we can fund Aspara's surgery, transportation, and recovery, giving her the help she needs to get back on her feet.

The youngest of eight siblings, Thomas is absolutely adorable! He lives with his uncle in Moita, Tanzania. Thomas is very clever and loves to play games with other children. Thomas suffers from a deformity of his lower limbs due to severe Fluorosis, a disease caused by excessive consumption of fluoride. Thomas experiences severe knee pain and cannot walk far distances. To mend Thomas’s legs, he requires a surgical procedure called an osteotomy and casts for both legs. This treatment costs $1,000 dollars and will give Thomas the ability to walk without pain. Donations will make it possible for Thomas to continue to be an active and adventurous kid!

Benita is a vigorous 46-year-old Kaqchikel woman with severe cholelithiasis (gall stones). Benita is widowed and has grown children. Due to her condition, she has been unable to work, and so cannot afford the surgery that she needs to remove the gall stones that are interrupting her life. Her gall stones have predisposed Benita to infections and caused her to have episodes of pain, nausea, and diarrhea multiple times a day. We are raising a total of $400 to help Benita get the care that she needs. Her surgery will cost $200, and labs and transportation will each cost $100. After surgery, Benita's doctors say she will no longer have significant pain and will be able to resume normal life!

Oumar is facing a life-threatening condition at just 19 months old. He has meningitis, and he’s developed chronic epilepsy as a complication. Oumar’s epilepsy is treatable. Through surgery and drainage of his peritoneal ventricles to remove extra fluid from his brain, Oumar’s doctors say they can end his epileptic reactions. It will take $1370 for Oumar to get the care he needs. Oumar lives with his aunt, who takes responsibility for him and his brothers and sisters. While she works hard as a tailor to make ends meet for her large adopted family, she doesn’t make enough to cover the cost of Oumar’s treatment. Oumar’s aunt dreams of him becoming a teacher and contributing to the well being of their community. She told Project Muso, “I hope he will receive the treatment he so desperately needs. I will do everything I can to make his future as bright as possible.” Oumar deserves a chance to live a full life, and access to medical care can make the determining difference for him.
