Mey Ching is six years old and a first-grader from Cambodia. She is the youngest of three children and lives with her parents and siblings in Koh Kong. Her father is a fisherman, while her mother sells groceries. She enjoys reading and writing Khmer and playing hide-and-seek with her friends in the village. Her favorite foods are sour fish soup and fried vegetables. For the past three years, Mey Ching has been experiencing a persistent daily cough, episodes of fever and throat pain, frequent snoring at night, and difficulty swallowing. Her ongoing throat problems make swallowing uncomfortable and disturb her sleep because of frequent snoring. The recurring symptoms can also make it harder for her to feel comfortable and fully enjoy school and activities with her friends. Mey Ching was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Mey Ching, which is scheduled to take place on September 8th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Mey Ching of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. Mey Ching's mother said, “I hope the surgery will help my daughter breathe, swallow, and sleep better. I want her to feel healthy and free from these ongoing throat problems.”

The day was a celebration until his motorcycle's brakes went out. On his way home from his daughter's graduation ceremony, Peter was in a serious motorcycle accident. After being rushed to the hospital, he received basic care for injuries to his right arm, tibia and fibula fractures, and an open leg wound. He was then referred to our medical partner's care center, AIC Kapsowar Hospital, for more advanced treatment. The surgical team is planning a complex free flap operation, stabilizing the fractured bone and covering the damaged tissue. The surgery is scheduled to take place on October 21st. However, Peter's financial constraints threaten his recovery. He works as a plumber, and his wife sells second-hand clothing with enough earnings to cover daily expenses, but not a complex and unexpected leg surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,500 to help cover Peter's surgery and recovery, restoring both his quality of life and ability to work. Soy is a 65-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She lives in Kampong Speu Province with her husband. They have no children and earn their living by growing rice together. In her free time, she enjoys going to the pagoda and listening to monks prayers. In January 2025, Soy was involved in a road traffic accident that caused an open fracture of her right shin bone. She underwent surgery where doctors inserted a metal nail to stabilize the fractured bone. Her fracture has healed well, and she has regained normal movement and sensation. The metal implant is no longer needed and requires removal to complete her treatment. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 13th, Soy will undergo a surgical hardware removal procedure, allowing her to continue farming and carrying out her daily activities comfortably. Soy is contributing to her treatment but needs $353 more to fund the procedure. She said, “My leg has healed well, and I hope this final surgery is the last step. I’m looking forward to returning home, doing my daily work, and moving around with confidence again.”
