Abdifatah is a 5-month-old boy from Somalia and the second child of his parents. He was born with hydrocephalus, a condition where water accumulates on the brain. This causes intracranial pressure and if left untreated, can stop neurological development, resulting in failure to reach important milestones. Our medical partners at Edna Adan Hospital (EAH) tell us that his family has traveled from their home village in "because war has disrupted all healthcare services in Somalia. His family is very poor but a community health worker raised money to bring several children" to the hospital for treatment. EAH continues,“It is important to correct hydrocephalus as early as possible. Early treatment will help avoid or decrease the chance of disabilities such as blindness or even death in serious cases.” For $640 we can fund Abdifatah’s treatment, surgery and recovery at EAH. This is Kamza, a sweet two-year-old from the Comoros Islands. She has congenital nevus on her scalp - a rare condition that presents as a dark-colored patch of skin at birth. These marks often become cancerous, and can be life-threatening if not treated properly. Kamza lives in Kenya with her two older siblings and parents, where she has received initial medical care and treatment. However, the scar remains on her scalp and may become malignant if left untreated. "I want my daughter to live a long and healthy life. I want her to go to school and play with other children," her mother shares. For $1,500, Kamza will receive surgery allowing her to grow up healthy, social, and strong. She is very bright and was admitted into a good school just a few months ago, but had to stop attending because of her poor health. Her family farms for a living, but they do not make nearly enough money to pay for the medical care Rangi needs. Rangi loves to play with her friends when she is feeling well enough and can’t wait to get treatment so she can go back to living a normal life. Let’s make it happen for her!

Dudhakala is a 15-year-old girl from Nepal who needs surgery to treat rheumatic heart disease. For the last year, she’s battled worsening symptoms of her condition, including shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and severe tremors that prevent her from walking, playing, or living any kind of a normal life. Despite the challenges thrown her way, Dudhakala remains positive and hopeful about her future. She told her doctors that when she grows up she wants to become a teacher and take care of her grandmother.
