Reaksmey is a determined 16-year-old boy from Cambodia. He lives in Kratie Province with his parents and older brother. His father and brother work as construction workers, while his mother manages the household. Due to financial difficulties, he had to leave school after Grade 9. He enjoys playing football with his friends and loves eating vegetable soup. Three months ago, Reaksmey was involved in a traffic accident that caused a displaced fracture of the mid-shaft of his left femur. Following the injury, his family sought treatment from a traditional healer, but his condition did not improve. During his recovery, he also suffered another fall, which worsened his injury. After remaining unable to stand or walk for several months, his parents took him to a private clinic, where X-rays confirmed a severe fracture of his left femur. He experiences persistent pain in his left thigh and has difficulty moving his leg. He is unable to stand or walk without assistance, and his left leg has become shorter than the right. Because of prolonged immobility, the muscles in his left thigh have become weak and wasted, significantly affecting his mobility and daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 1st, Reaksmey will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize the fracture and promote healing. This procedure will help reduce pain, improve leg alignment and strength, and allow him to stand and walk more comfortably again. His family can contribute $100, but needs help raising $500 more to fund his procedure and care. Reaksmey's mother said, “We hope this treatment will help our son walk normally again and live without pain. Seeing him unable to stand or walk has been very difficult, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help him recover.”

Mariat is a two-year-old girl from Ethiopia. In a home filled with quiet worry, this young girl battles recurring tonsillitis, finding comfort only in the arms of the older brother she loves so dearly. Her mother is a homemaker, while her father is a nurse. Nine months ago, Mariat started to experience burning fevers and painful swallowing. The recurring illness has caused a painful cycle of fatigue, poor sleep, and a loss of appetite. Her loud snoring and restless nights leave the whole family drained. Managing her health has become a source of deep worry for her parents, who find it nearly impossible to cover the costs of her treatment on a single, limited salary. Mariat was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $700 to fund a tonsillectomy for Mariat, which is scheduled to take place on January 24th. Surgeons will remove her tonsils, hopefully relieving Mariat of her symptoms and helping her live more comfortably. Mariat's parents shared, "Our family hopes this surgery will bring the lasting relief she deserves. We look forward to seeing her healthy and happy at last."

Nahreen is a three-year-old girl from Tanzania. She lives with her parents and her younger brother in a loving household that carefully supports her development. Nahreen was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. Her parents first noticed the exaggerated outward curvature of her legs soon after she began walking. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. Without treatment, the condition could worsen as she grows, affecting her ability to walk, play, and attend school comfortably. Her parents look forward to seeing their daughter walk confidently, play with peers, and participate fully in childhood activities without limitation. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $810 to fund treatment for Nahreen. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 6th at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Nahreen's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Nahreen's mother says, “Our wish is to see her walk freely and grow strong like other children.”
