Mary is a peasant farmer from Kenya. Three years ago, she felt a painless lump on her left breast which was dismissed as a fatty lump at a local clinic. In 2018, the lump became painful and she sought medical care. She was still advised to wait. However, in 2019, she sought treatment from a different hospital. She had a biopsy done and cancer was suspected. She came to our facility where an x-ray was done and surgery recommended. Mary and her husband tend to their small farm to eke out a living. The mother of 4 children does not have any medical insurance and was not able to raise the funds required in the previous facility. Her children are not in any employment making it hard to consolidate funds needed. Mary has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $816 to cover the cost of a mastectomy for Mary. The procedure is scheduled to take place on January 3rd. After treatment, Mary will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Mary says, “My hope is to have the cancer treated so that I continue providing for my family.”

Savuth is a hair dresser from Cambodia. He has one daughter and two sons. He likes to go for walks, do housework, and watch TV. Two years ago, he developed hip pain on his left side. He cannot walk, work, or support his family. Fortunately, Savuth learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. At CSC, surgeons can perform a total hip replacement to relieve Savuth of his pain and allow him to walk easily. Treatment is scheduled for October 17, and Savuth needs help raising $1,025 to pay for this procedure. He says, "I hope I can walk normally again after the operation."

Christina is a farmer and mother to four from Malawi. She enjoys attending church services and spending time with her friends. Since October 2018, Christina has been experiencing lower abdominal pain. She has been diagnosed with ovarian cysts, which are fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries. She needs to undergo an ovarian cystectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will excise the cysts. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $541 to fund Christina's surgery. On October 18, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and seven nights of hospital stay. She says, "I am happy to be helped by this program, very very happy."

Kezabu is a businesswoman from Uganda. She is married and a mother of six children. Since 2010, Kezabu has had a swelling on her left upper arm. It has recently become painful. Kezabu traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On October 17, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Kezabu needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure. She says, "After surgery I will have peace of mind and continue with my business."

Emmarie is an 18-year-old college student who is studying criminology. Her dream is to protect and maintain peace in her country. She believes that serving the country is not only "a man's job," but a "responsibility of all citizens." Watsi's medical partner, International Care Ministries (ICM), describes her as "a woman of courage." Last September, Emmarie began to experience abdominal pain and swelling. For this reason, she began to have difficulty at school, eventually deciding to postpone her education. After undergoing diagnostic testing, Emmarie learned that she had a cyst on her ovary. Without treatment, Emmarie was at risk of the cyst bursting. Fortunately, on December 21, she underwent an ovarian cystectomy to remove the cyst. Emmarie's father works as a driver to provide for the family. He cannot afford this treatment, so ICM is requesting $890 in funding. After recovery, Emmarie plans to continue her education and training to become a policewoman. "When I learned about my condition, I felt downcast," says Emmarie. "I stopped schooling because of the pain I felt, especially during field training...I knew my parents could not afford to pay for treatment." She continues, "I was grateful to learn that I could be helped through your organization, and donors could sponsor my surgery. I give my heartfelt thanks to you in advance. Hopefully, after this surgery, I will live a normal life and return to school."

Moeun is a 67-year-old man with three sons, three daughters, and five grandchildren. He likes to cook for monks, read books on Buddhism, and clean around the pagoda. Five years ago, Moeun developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurred vision, irritation, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, working, and going anywhere independently. When Moeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On November 22, doctors performed a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, Moeun will be able to see clearly again. Now, he needs help to fund this $292 procedure. "I hope my eyes can see everything more clearly," he says, "so that I can recognize the faces of everyone, read easily, and work at the pagoda. I also want to be able to go anywhere outside by myself."

Meet Lokesh, a lovable five-year-old boy from Nepal! Lokesh has just recently started to attend school, and he has already made many friends who he enjoys playing with. "Lokesh lives in a family of five members," Possible, our medical partner, explains to us. "His parents own a small piece of land where they grow seasonal crops but the produce is only enough for about two months in a year." Because of this, Lokesh's father commutes to India to work as a wage laborer to support the family. "Lokesh was in his home when he heard women singing a festival song downstairs," Possible tells us. "He was running to them to see them from a closer range when he fell down on his outstretched hand." After the incident, Lokesh could not move his swelling left wrist, for it was too painful. Lokesh now has trouble performing ordinary activities such as putting clothes on or lifting objects. He is also unable to continue attending school. "We cannot afford the cost of the treatment," Lokesh's uncle tells Possible. For $205, we can relieve Lokesh from his pain and allow him to continue attending school again! "He will be able to play with his friends," Possible explains to us. "He would also be able to perform ordinary activities on his own."

Simeon is a friendly and bright 24-year-old from Nigeria. He is currently in school, studying to be an accountant. Simeon has many talents; he loves to read, sing, and play basketball. The only thing getting in the way of these things is an abnormal growth on his right arm. The growth causes Simeon a lot of pain and immobility, but he can't afford surgery to remove it. Simeon is looking forward to completing his education and getting a good job so he can help support his five siblings. Already struggling to put himself through school, the $1500 required for treatment is well beyond his means. Let's work together to help Simeon get treatment and move forward with his education!

Meet Frantzia! She's a one-year-old girl from Haiti who, at just three months old, was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition characterized by buildup of fluid in the brain. Hydrocephalus causes life-threatening swelling of the skull, facial distortion, and is usually fatal when left untreated. Frantzia’s mother has spent years struggling to rebuild her small business in the aftermath of the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010. Frantzia’s health problems have forced her mother to stop working entirely to care for her only child, limiting her financial resources in the face of increasing medical costs. For $1,260, Frantzia will receive life-altering surgery that will point her in the direction of healthy development. Her mother’s greatest wish is to see her child develop without deformities. This surgery will also allow Frantzia's mother to return to work and afford to send Frantzia to school. Let's help to make this a reality for them!

Kishor is an ambitious and adorable 5 year-old boy from Nepal. Kishor, who lives with his mother and older brother, is a kindergarten student who is already excelling in school. In fact, a selective scholarship program sponsors his education. Like most kids his age, Kishor loves playing with toys. He also likes to visit his mother at the District Office, where she works. Even though he is only 5, Kishor has big plans for his future! He wants to become a doctor or an officer where his mother works. Kishor has undescended testes, a condition that may lead him to be infertile and unable to have children. Furthermore, this condition could lead to carcinoma if untreated. Kishor’s medical treatment, corrective surgery, costs $1,010 dollars. This procedure will allow Kishor to lead a healthy, normal life, and give him the opportunity to have a family of his own in the future!
