This young man is called Powerful. He is 17, has two brothers and one sister, and lives in Haiti. Powerful is an intelligent boy, and was always good at school even when sick. He dreams of becoming a doctor in the future. Powerful has had two heart surgeries for valve replacement. Now he has developed endocarditis, an inflammation of the inner layer of the heart, the endocardium. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, reports, "the patient came to the hospital with fast heart beating, shortness of breathe, fever and severe headaches. Powerful's health condition is very bad, he requires very specified and quick treatment to save his life." Powerful is from a poor family and his parents are unemployed, they depend on friends to help them. This little guy is Ayubu, a three-week-old baby boy from Tanzania. The youngest of three children, Ayubu lives with her siblings and hardworking parents. Ayubu’s family owns a few livestock, with which they earn an income to support their family. Ayubu has thoracolumbar myelomeningocele with hydrocephalus. This has caused a lesion on his back, which can burst at anytime and leak cerebral spinal fluid. He is in danger of losing his vision due to increased intracranial pressure and if not treated, his condition will likely be fatal. For $1,025, Ayubu will receive a myelomeningocele closure and ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion. This treatment will get him out of danger of losing his sight and will allow him to continue developing normally. “We have truly struggled with this baby and we frantically need help.
