“If only I could have my baby safely delivered in a health facility and also safe from any complications, I would really appreciate it,” says Monica. Meet Monica, a jovial 17-year-old woman from Kenya who's pregnant with her first child. Our medical partner, Lwala Community Alliance (LCA), report that Monica “complains of headaches and lower abdominal pains. Thus she cannot currently attend to her daily chores including farming which is a source of livelihood for her.” Monica needs special care to ensure a safe delivery, but her family cannot afford it. “Monica is single and her family are peasant farmers,” LCA continues. "The income they derive from farming is not enough to take care of medical bills during this period of pregnancy.” For $290, we can fund prenatal care, delivery, and postnatal care while also mitigating her pain during pregnancy. After she gives birth, Monica hopes to enroll in college. With prenatal care and a safe delivery, LCA tells us Monica "will be free from headaches and lower abdominal pains. She will resume her normal duties and have a safe delivery.”

Meet Saline, a 25-year-old wife, and mother of three boys living in Kenya. She married a farmer at age 18 and, although unable to attend school growing up, is putting her children through primary school. Saline is pregnant; however, according to our medical partners at Lwala Community Alliance, Saline is experiencing a loss of appetite, weight loss, vomiting after every meal, and lower abdominal pain. As a result, Saline feels very weak and has little energy to get up and move around. For $290, Saline will receive both prenatal and postnatal care, as well as a safe delivery. This will help ensure that Saline's symptoms are addressed so that she can continue to help out around the house throughout her pregnancy. The funds will also provide a safe delivery so that she will be able to join her husband on the farm after the baby is born. Saline says, "I hope that my baby is born in a safe environment, healthy and immunized at birth to enable him/her to grow strong."

“I hope to feel better soon and to join my new school,” says Christine. Say hello to Christine, an honest and hardworking 16-year-old girl living in Kenya with her parents and her eight siblings. Christine is in school and hopes to become a teacher after completing her education. Christine is pregnant and having a difficult pregnancy. Although she is ready to join secondary school, Christine finds it challenging to walk to school. Her legs are tired and she feels a burning sensation on her back, preventing her from enjoying her usual lifestyle. She needs special care to ensure a safe delivery, but her family cannot afford to pay for it. To support their large family, Christine’s mother is a farmer and her father teaches at a local primary school. “Her mother tell us that her fathers income is not even enough to supplement the family's need and paying Christine's safe delivery cost is completely out of their reach,” shares our medical partner, Lwala Community Alliance (LCA). We can fund a safe delivery for $290. In addition to the delivery, Christine will be offered pre and postnatal care. Meet Rooda, a determined 16-year-old young woman from Somaliland. "Rooda has had a club foot since birth," explains our medical partner, Edna Adan Hospital (EAH). "This has caused her to have issues mobilizing." Rooda experiences bullying because of her foot, but she has not let this hold her back from attending school nor taking on more responsibilities in her own home. Though she works hard in spite of her mobility challenges, Rooda shares with EAH that she looks forward to feeling like a “normal” girl. For $790, we can fund club foot repair surgery and follow-up care that will improve Rooda’s mobility and self-esteem. Meet Lucy, a 19-year-old woman who lives in Kenya. She is married in a polygamous family as a second wife. Our medical partners at Lwala Community Alliance (LCA) tell us that “Lucy likes playing football in the women’s club at her community.” “She is expecting her second child and hoping to deliver safely with the help of a skilled attendant,” continues LCA. “She complains of lower abdominal pain and back pain which prevents her from her daily activities.” Lucy says, “I would like my baby to be a professional doctor when he/she grows up to improve the life and health of the community members.” Let’s raise $290 to provide Lucy with prenatal care, postnatal care, and help deliver her baby.

Meet Angel, a one-year-old girl from the Philippines! According to our medical partner, International Care Ministries (ICM), “Angel is an energetic child who loves to smile to whoever comes across her. She lives with her foster parents, who are farmers, because her mother died during delivery.” Unfortunately, “Angel has a distended abdomen and has difficulty passing out waste. The condition puts her at risk of infection due to lack of anal passage,” explains ICM. For $965, Angel will receive surgery to relieve her abdominal and renal malformations – she will no longer have difficulty passing waste, and will not be at risk of infection. “We are blessed to have this child in our family; we love to take care of her but we cannot afford the surgery needed because of our limited resources. We are humbly requesting your kindness to help us make this surgery possible,” says Angel’s family. Let’s help give her a chance to live a more healthy childhood!

Meet Qadan, a 15-year-old girl from Somaliland who has a clubfoot, a condition that causes her feet to grow inward rather than straight. “The clubfoot limits her mobility and makes her tasks of daily living more challenging,” reports our medical partner, Edna Adan Hospital (EAH). “Qadan is from a nomadic family and, thus, a physical disability such as a clubfoot causes major issues with her lifestyle,” continues EAH. She tries to support her family as best as she can, but her lack of mobility complicates her efforts. For $790, we can treat Qadan’s clubfoot so she can return to helping her family. “Qadan is looking forward to being able to mobilize more freely and take on more responsibilities in the home,” EAH says.

Meet Emmanuel, a one-year-old baby boy from Haiti. He is one of three children to his mother who farms and sells seafood to support her family. Emmanuel was born with a cleft lip and palate. His mother was initially worried about him but after hearing on the radio that this common birth defect can be fixed with a surgical procedure, did everything she could to have her son be seen. She cannot cover the cost of Emmanuel's care, but is both hopeful and optimistic about her son's future. With $960 Project Medishare will be able to do a cleft lip and palate repair for Emmanuel. Let's help this little guy out and make his life a little easier going forward!

Meet Hussein, a one-year-old boy from Somalia. Hussein has a clubfoot, which makes it difficult for him to move like other children his age. Our medical partner, Edna Adan Hospital (EAH), reports, “Hussein should be starting to stand and mobilize, however, he is not able to do this yet due to the deformity of his foot.” “Hussein is a twin and has eleven other siblings,” continues EAH. “His father looks after livestock and his mother is a homemaker and stays at home to look after the other children.” The clubfoot limits Hussein’s mobility. He would like to play with other children and be able to move freely. For $1185, we can fund surgery to improve Hussein’s mobility. Hussein will be able to walk like his twin, play with other children, and grow up to help his family!

Meet Aung, an eight-year-old boy from Burma! Our medical partner, Burma Border Projects (BBP), tells us, "Aung really enjoys school and likes studying; he says that he would like to become an eye doctor when he grows up.” Aung has been fighting cancer and previously had his eye removed to prevent tumor spread. The tumor has now spread to his eye socket and needs to be removed. "The tumor currently causes Aung physical and mental discomfort," BBP explains. "After his eye was removed it was hoped that his condition would improve, however, the spread of the tumor has been very difficult for him and his mother. It is physically painful and also causes him a headaches and becomes tired easily." For $1,500, Aung will receive the necessary surgery to remove the tumor. Aung’s mother says, “I really want my son to continue with his education – I never had the opportunity and have had to work a physically difficult job my whole life. I am completely determined to get him treatment no matter how many surgeries he needs.” Let’s help Aung get healthy again!

Say hello to Elmica, a two-year-old girl from Haiti. Elmica was born with a cleft lip and palate, a common birth defect which prevented Elmica's from forming properly. "She has difficulties eating normally," Project Medishare tells us. When Elmica was a little younger, her mother took her to a hospital in the countryside where they live to see if she could get care. The hospital did not have a plastic surgeon so nothing could be done at that time. Elmica's family is very hopeful that she will receive care.
