Musiime is a 30-year-old farmer who is now expecting his first child. He and his wife live in a single room rental house and, to make ends meet, he cultivates cabbages and tomatoes. Musiime has had a persistent inguinal swelling for the last seven years. It had not been affecting his daily activities, but recently became painful. He is no longer able to do strenuous activities, nor bend easily, which has made work more challenging. Upon seeking care at Nyakibale Hospital, Musiime was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia and recommended to undergo surgery. A successful surgery will reduce the chances of the hernia being strangulated, which may result in complications later on. However, Musiime cannot afford the cost of his care. He appeals for financial support. Fortunately, on April 20th, Musiime will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $230 to fund Musiime's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Musiime shared, “I hope to get better after my surgery and be able to continue farming and provide for my wife as we expect our newborn soon."

Tumuhairwe is a 55-year-old farmer and a mother of 6 children, and makes a living from farming together with her husband. For the past 8 months, Tumahairwe has been experiencing abnormal bleeding and abdominal and back pains, especially when she does strenuous activities. Tumahairwe has been diagnosed with a premalignant cervical lesion. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. The treatment would help reduce the chances of developing cervical cancer. However, due to financial struggles, she is not able to meet the cost of her care. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Tumuhairwe's surgery. On March 9th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Tumuhairwe will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Tumuhairwe shared, “I hope to get relief from my condition when I am considered for surgery with your support. I will continue with farming once I have fully recovered.”

Muhangi is a 13-year-old student from Uganda. Muhangi is the fourth born of six children in his family. His parents farm tomatoes and cabbage, often selling the surplus to make ends meet. Three years ago, Muhangi developed a painful mass on his neck that has continually increased in size. He complains of pain, especially when he tries turning his neck or sleeps on the swollen side. When he was examined at a local hospital, he was diagnosed with a sternomastoid mass and surgery was recommended. Muhangi and his father traveled to African Mission Healthcare's care center to receive treatment. On March 2nd, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Muhangi's family needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure. Muhangi's father shared, “I think that this condition could continue affecting my son but I hope that with surgery, it will end, and he will continue with his education.”

Sabel is a 5-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is the third born in a family of four children. Sabel’s father is a small scale farmer and his mother is a homemaker. They work hard to meet their family's basic needs. Sabel was born a healthy child, but when he was born, his umbilical cord was wrapped around his thigh and knee. As a result, he had to undergo a below-the-knee amputation, and the surgery was successful. However, the operation site is not closing properly. If not treated, Sabel could develop a severe infection in this area so the medical team wants to make sure he heals well. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Sabel receive treatment. On February 9th, surgeons will perform a skin graft procedure. This treatment will allow Sabel's wound to heal well and, once he is fully recovered, he will be able to be fitted for a prosthetic. Now, Sabel's family needs help to fund this $747 procedure. Sabel’s mother shared, “His wound has taken a long time to heal and the doctors have advised he needs a skin graft surgery which we can’t afford. Please help him."

Channy is a 59-year-old mother of nine from Mondulkiri Province in Cambodia. She is a rice farmer and has three sons, six daughters, and six grandchildren. When the rice harvest season ends, she and her husband plant and sell vegetables. Two years ago, Channy developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, photophobia, and tearing. Overall, she feels she is in fair health but has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. On February 9th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly again and do more of the things that she needs to do each day. Channy shared, "I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly, I can go to the rice field, and I can take good care of my grandchildren."
