Sokun is a 51-year-old rice farmer who lives with his wife in Kampong Speu province. Together, they have six children, all of whom work in various jobs in other provinces. In his free time, he enjoys watching sports and reading the news on his phone.
In 1990, Sokun suffered a landmine injury that resulted in the loss of his right leg. He has lived with this below-knee amputation for over 35 years. For the past eight months, he has experienced a persistent infection at the tip of his stump, making it painful to walk and impossible to wear a prosthesis. He has relied on crutches to get around, which has made it difficult and painful to continue farming.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is helping Sokun receive treatment. On May 1st, he will undergo surgery to clean the infected area, remove damaged tissue, and reshape the stump to allow for better healing and future use of a prosthetic limb. Sokun and his family are able to contribute towards the cost of his treatment, but need help raising $366 more to fund the procedure.
Sokun says: “I just wish for the pain to stop, so I can walk and farm again to help support my family.”
