Sabin is a seven-year-old boy who lives with his parents and siblings in Nepal. He currently studies in first grade. His father is a teacher, and his mother works in the field for a living. Recently, Sabin fell from the porch of his house and fractured his right hand. He was in pain, and his hand was swollen. Sabin used herbal medicines, but he still had difficulty moving his hand. His parents decided to seek medical treatment. They traveled for six hours to reach our medical partner's hospital, Bayalpata Hospital. On November 8, Sabin was fitted with a cast to properly align the fractured bone in his wrist. Once the fracture has completely healed, he will be able to complete his everyday tasks with ease. Our medical partner, Possible, is requesting $195 to fund this procedure.

Suman is a seven-year old boy from Nepal. He studies in first standard and stays in the dorms at his school. Being the youngest in the family, Suman is well taken care of, especially when he comes home on his vacations. While his father works in the Nepal Army to support the family, his mother tends to the farm to keep the family going. Suman was playing 'Kabaddi' with his friends when he stumbled on a stone and fell down, fracturing his right elbow. He has been in a lot pain since and has been crying and even had to take medication to control the pain. He has difficulty moving the injured arm and there is some swelling too. To seek medical treatment, Suman and his mother took a four hour jeep ride to reach the hospital. Because of his fractured elbow, Suman needs help with his everyday work like eating, bathing and dressing up and is forced to miss school too. For $541, Suman will receive corrective treatment for his fractured elbow that will reduce the pain and increase his mobility. "We have come from very far, I hope Suman's treatment is successful," shares Suman's mother.

Five-year-old Ishara lives with her parents and siblings in Nepal. Her family depends on agriculture for a living and grows enough food to keep them fed for about three months a year. Ishara was playing with her friends when she slipped on the mud and broke her right hand. It has been hurting since then and her hand has considerably swollen. She was taken to the health post near her village, but was referred to Possible's hub, Bayalpata Hospital, for a surgical treatment. It took her family nearly two days to reach the hospital from her house. As a result of her injury, Ishara needs help with her everyday work like eating and getting dressed. For $541, we can fund orthopedic surgery to correct her fractured hand, as well as physiotherapy to help her regain full range of motion. Ishara's mother shared: "I hope my daughter's hand is treated soon so that she is free of pain."

Ramila is a two-year-old girl from Nepal who recently started kindergarten. “She likes sharing the stories she learned in school at home," our medical partner, Possible, shares. "Her favorite game is gatta, played by balancing five stones on one's hand." “She was returning from school when she slipped and fractured her right elbow,” explains Possible. “She has been in a lot of pain and it has considerably swollen too." Her broken elbow has understandably made it difficult to live her normal life and keep up with school. Ramila’s family brought her to the hospital, but are unable to afford the proper care that Ramila needs. "Ramila is so young, she's just started school. I worry what will happen if her elbow is not fixed," says her mother. $579 will allow Ramila to undergo open reduction and internal fixation surgery. In this procedure, surgeons place the bones in the correct position and fix them in place with metal pins. Ramila's elbow will then be placed in a cast so the bones can heal properly, and after four to six weeks, the cast will be removed and Ramila will begin to recover use of her arm and get back to being a normal kindergartener.

“I earnestly wish for her to have no complications because of this in the future,” shares the father of Manisha, a 13-year-old girl living in Nepal. While playing at school, Manisha was hit with a rock and was left with an open wound and a fracture in her right leg. Right now, it is too painful for Manisha to use her right leg and she needs help completing even basic tasks. As a result, Manisha had to be carried on her father’s back for two hours to reach our medical partner, Possible. While Manisha’s parents work in the field, Manisha helps out around the house by looking after cattle and babysitting her younger brother. Although Manisha’s parents work hard, they cannot afford the $579 that would pay for Manisha’s treatment. With your help, Manisha’s bones will be “aligned correctly and secured with the help of pins. Her open wound will also be stitched close,” Possible shares.

Meet Suni, a six-year-old girl from Nepal, who lives with her grandparents, mother, and brother at home while her father works in India. Suni helps her grandparents with their farm and collects fodder for the family cattle at home. Our medical partner, Possible, shares that Suni has been unable to move much or even attend school because of a recent accident. One day while picking apples, Suni fell from a branch 15 feet off the ground and landed on her elbow, resulting in a painful fracture. The open injury is painful, swelling, and tender to the touch, Possible says. Suni will need an orthosurgeon to operate on her open elbow fracture to place the broken bones back together and prevent them from moving during the healing process. Possible states that with an open reduction and internal fixation procedure, Suni’s elbow will be reset with special screws and metal plates. $579 in funding will cover surgical costs including any medication, hospital admission charges, and follow up examinations to ensure that Suni’s elbow is completely realigned and healed. “Suni is our very dear granddaughter,” Suni’s grandfather shares. “Her mother could not come with her because she had to look after Suni’s younger brother. I hope she is out of her pain soon.”

Yean is a 33-year-old father and husband, working in construction in Cambodia. In his free time, Yean enjoys working on the family farm and helping his wife take care of their daughter. However, six years ago, Yean began to experience constant nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing. He shares, “It is difficult to breathe and sometimes there is a bad smell in my nose.” Yean has developed a nasal polyp that has obstructed respiration, making it very difficult for him to breathe properly. In order to alleviate his symptoms, Yean requires surgery to remove the growth in his nasal passageway. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can perform a polypectomy for $99. An ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgeon will completely remove the polyp, making it easier for Yean to breathe. The cost covers the surgery, a hospital stay and any necessary medications. Yean says, “I hope I can breathe easily and my runny nose will stop after the surgery.”

“I hope after surgery she will be able to walk normally,” shares the father of Liza, an 11-month-old girl living in Cambodia. Liza was born with clubfoot (congenital talipes equinovarus) of her right foot. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, states that although Liza has had numerous treatments at her local hospital to cast her foot, her condition has not improved. Due to her leg deformity, Liza is unable to walk properly and her father has a hard time taking care of her. With the aid of $266 for clubfoot repair surgery, Liza’s father hopes that she can continue to do the things that she loves, such as playing with her dolls, toy cars, and watching Tom and Jerry cartoons.

Meet Chai, a very active nine-year-old boy who lives in Thailand with his parents and older brother. He and his brother attend school, and his parents are farm laborers. Chai enjoys playing football despite being born with a malformed right leg and foot. “His right leg is stunted and significantly shorter than his left, and his foot is swollen and clubbed,” explains our medical partner, Burma Border Projects (BBP). “He has difficulty walking, and his foot frequently becomes infected.” BBP adds, “If left untreated, Chai will continue to suffer from infections and will likely develop hip problems in the future.” Chai’s parents do not have enough money to pay for treatment for their son. They already find themselves sometimes needing to work extra hours or take loans from their employer to support their family. To prevent future infections and hip joint issues, doctors recommend amputation of Chai’s right leg. $1500 will cover the cost of the surgery as well as travel to and from the hospital, inpatient pre-operative and post-operative care, and follow-up appointments. Chai, who wants be a police officer when he grows up, looks forward to one day being able to wear shoes on both feet with a prosthetic.

Say hello to Cheat, a 10-year-old from Cambodia! According to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), Cheat “is the youngest of four siblings and his favorite food is fried chicken. He likes playing with his toy cars and studying Khmer language." Unfortunately, “Cheat is partially blind due to congenital cataracts. It is very difficult for him at school, and he can’t play sports or do physical activities with the other kids because of the danger," explains CSC. For $150, Cheat will receive surgery to remove his cataracts, restoring his vision. Let’s help Cheat live a healthy childhood!

Meet 22-year-old Rangi Devi, a new mother from Nepal. Recently, Rangi Devi was working outside her home and slipped in the snow. She subsequently developed a swollen and painful wrist, and was diagnosed with a fracture of her right radius and ulna. "She has been unable to eat or sleep at ease," says our medical partner, Possible. "It is difficult for her to even breastfeed the baby. She cannot work." Rangi Devi's family relies on agriculture for income, which earns enough income for nine months of the year. Rangi Devi’s husband works as a wage laborer in India to supplement their income, but the family does not have any spare funds for her treatment. For $205, Possible will be able to provide treatment and correct the fracture. "Rangi Devi will be able to move her arms with ease," says Possible. "It will help her take care of herself and her baby. She will be able to do her regular work as well." Let's help ensure Rangi Devi can take care of herself and her new baby, and heal her arm as quickly as possible!

“We cannot go to the major towns or to India to get treatment. I wish I could move my hand like I could before,” says Jamuna. Meet Jamuna, a 70-year-old mother from Nepal who fractured her radius and ulna bones in her left forearm. “Jamuna was trying to come down the stairs when she slipped and injured her left forearm,” says our medical partner, Possible. “She developed a painful swelling in her arm after the incident. Jamuna is not able to move her hand. She cannot do the regular work she used to do.” Jamuna is part of a family of six. “The family is primarily involved in agriculture and also relies on savings from working in Indian towns as the main source of income. Jamuna is more confined to household work now that she has aged and helps her daughter-in-law with domestic chores,” continues Possible. For $205, we can fund treatment to heal the fractured bones in Jamuna’s left forearm. “Jamuna will be able to move her arm with ease,” Possible explains. “She will be able to do her regular work and help her family. Jamuna will be able to lead a normal life like before the incident.”
