Chauma is a strong, 58-year-old grandmother who works her own maize and groundnut farm in Malawi. Chauma works hard to be the breadwinner in her large family of three children and five grandchildren, though she has advanced cervical cancer. She has been experiencing abdominal bleeding, making it uncomfortable for her to tend to her fields and family. Recently, Chauma's bleeding has been so bad that she has not been able to work in the farm or tend to her household. Ansley is an intelligent 14-year-old boy living in Haiti. Ansley’s mother is a primary school teacher and his father is a small farmer, both working hard to provide for Ansley and his siblings. Ansley loves school but had to put his schooling on hold after he lost the function of his right hand and leg, leaving him unable to walk and lift his hand. His mother took him to the doctors and the result of a CT scan revealed Ansley has a brain tumor. Ansley is now also losing his ability to talk and see well. Let’s raise $1500 for Ansley to travel to the Dominican Republic and receive the four-week radiation therapy. Meet Cho, a baby girl living in Burma with her parents. Cho’s mother owned a food and drink stand, which she stopped managing when she became pregnant with Cho, and her father is a day laborer and taxi driver. Living on one income has been difficult since Cho was born. Cho was born prematurely in a local hospital, unequipped with the oxygen and incubator Cho needed to get a healthy start. Worried for their newborn baby, Cho’s parents took her to a hospital in Thailand for treatment where doctors noticed she has a serious eye condition; stage 3 Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). This disease, which is caused by disorganized growth of retinal blood vessels, can result in scarring and retinal detachment. Without treatment, Cho’s eye may deteriorate and she may become blind. Fortunately, we can raise $1500 to give Cho a lens replacement surgery. With treatment, Cho will have the gift of sight for her whole life. What are we waiting for?

Benjamin is a 58-year-old man from Kenya. He is married, and the father of eight grown children. Benjamin works as a carpenter, and all of his children do whatever work they can find. The family works hard, but struggles to earn a sustainable living. Last month, Benjamin fell from the roof of a home and broke his thigh bone. He is in extreme pain, and is unable to walk or stand, let alone work. Benjamin needs surgery to repair the break in his femur. Without treatment, the pain will continue, and the broken bone could cause damage to the surrounding tissues and cartilage in his thigh. There is also the risk that the bone could become infected, which could lead to amputation. Benjamin says “I want to get well so that I can go back to work because I need to provide for my wife.” $1,200 will pay for Benjamin’s surgery, medication, and hospitalization. A farmer by trade, San Thwin works side by side her husband tilling land on farms in Hway Shan, Burma. San Thwin is known by her friends for her inner strength. She lost her father at a young age, and after his passing, stayed home to help her mother support the family instead of going to school. She never learned to read or write. In March of this year, San Thwin noticed the first symptoms of a myoma, a benign tumor that grows within the muscle tissue of the uterus. She lost her appetite, developed abdominal pain, and when lying down she felt a small mass in her abdomen. San Thwin continued to help her husband with farm work until her pain became too severe. Now they can no longer cover the cost of their living or medical treatments. Sam Thwin deeply wants to get better so she can return to her livelihood. For $865, San Thwin will have an operation that surgically removes the myoma from her abdomen.
