Meet Mourine, a 23-year-old mother of two from Kenya. She is an active member of the local sumba women netball club and enjoys singing gospel songs in her free time. Currently, she is expecting her third child with her husband who works as a shopkeeper and farmer. “Two weeks ago, Mourine dealt with severe malaria,” reports our medical partner Lwala Community Alliance. Fortunately, she was able to get treatment and recover; however, “at times she says she feels lower abdominal pain that prevents her from working regularly.” This pain, coupled with the fact that she is pregnant, has prevented her from performing her everyday activities. Mourine’s family cannot afford to pay for a delivery in a health facility but she tells us, “I hope to deliver there because it will be much easier for the clinicians to attend to me quickly in case of any complications.” For only $290, we can help this humble, hard-working woman afford the safe delivery of her child, a right that every mother should have. “Oun misses cooking for her family and going to the pagoda on her own,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. This is Oun, a 72-year-old woman from Cambodia who was diagnosed with mature cataracts in both of her eyes. Oun has seven children and 11 grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do is listen to traditional Khmer music on the radio. Because of the clouded vision associated with having cataracts, Oun has had a difficult time taking care of her home and grandchildren. $150 will pay for the surgery necessary to give Oun her vision back. Cataract removal is one of the safest and most effective types of surgery. If left untreated, however, Oun’s cataracts could lead to total blindness. Meet Chet, a 15-year-old student from Cambodia. When Chet was a baby, he developed a severe infection in his knee which caused his leg to grow abnormally. Now, walking is difficult and painful for him. This makes it hard for him to walk to school, or keep up with his friends. Chet needs surgery and physiotherapy, which will finally improve his mobility. For $450, he will receive proper medical attention and no longer live with this disability! Chet is hoping to get better once and for all so he can get up to speed at school and walk like everyone else. Let's help him out!

Daw Su is a 50-year-old teacher form Burma. For three years, Daw Su has struggled with abdominal pain and bleeding caused by a uterine mass. Daw Su's condition is extremely treatable with surgery. But Daw Su’s husband recently contracted malaria, and was forced to give up his job, leaving the family in a financially strained position. Despite support from friends, family, and students, Daw Su needs additional help to afford treatment. For $540, we can help Daw Su receive medical care so she can return to her job as a teacher and (in her own words) “assist other people who are also in need of help.” Let's do this!

Rose is about to give birth to her first child and she is hoping to access maternal health services that will ensure a safe delivery. Rose is a farmer who grows crops for family use and sugarcane to supplement their other needs. Rose’s father is a carpenter who works hard to sustain the family. Throughout her pregnancy, Rose has worked with our medical partner, Lwala Community Alliance, to create a birth plan and save up money for her new arrival. "I pray to deliver a healthy child," Rose says, "for my baby to be immunized at birth, and to continue with my studies."
