After traveling three hours to reach our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), Sokhom looks forward to getting back on his feet. Sokhom works as a taxi driver in Cambodia, and "enjoys playing volleyball, watching Chinese movies with Khmer subtitles, and listening to pop music." Sokhom has had recent difficulty generating income and being active due to a broken right femur from a car accident in July. "I can't walk or work to support my life," Sokhom says. His broken femur causes pain and prevents him from being mobile and able to live his daily life. CSC recommends that Sokhom undergo and open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) surgery to fix his femur. In this procedure, doctors make an incision to realign and set the bones in place with rods and plates in order to ensure a proper recovery. $405 covers the cost of surgical supplies, physiotherapy, and follow-up appointments for the months following the operation. "After an ORIF surgery, Sokhom will be able to walk properly again without pain," CSC adds. "I hope after surgery I will be able to walk properly again," Sokhom shares. "After I am healed I would like to go back home and continue my job again."

“I plan on opening a small beauty and jewelry shop to increase the market base for my creations. I hope to receive treatment so that I can achieve this dream,” says Rahab, a 33-year-old woman from Kenya. A wife and mother to two, Rahab makes and sells her own beaded jewelry at the local market with her husband, who sells clothes for a living. This is how they make ends meet for their family. “Three months ago, Rahab noticed three lumps in her right breast and went to a local clinic for screening," African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) tells us. "There, she was directed to a women’s hospital, where a biopsy revealed that the lumps were positive for cancerous cells." Rahab and her family have pulled together $240 for surgery to remove the cancerous growths through a mastectomy. With an additional $740 we can help fully fund Rahab's treatment. “I dream of a better future where my children are educated, have steady work, and they can all depend on themselves,” shares Lillian, a cheerful 24-year-old woman from Kenya. Lillian and her husband, who are expecting their second child together, sell shoes and are small-scale farmers. Abdominal pain, headaches, and backache from her pregnancy have made it difficult for Lillian to continue her daily household duties. Lillian is hoping that Watsi donors can raise $290 to cover basic prenatal, delivery, and postnatal services. According to our medical partner, the Lwala Community Alliance, this will ensure a “safe delivery, reduced risk of complication, and increased knowledge of how to stay healthy and prevent disease.”
