Kamusiime is a tailor from Uganda. She is a mother of two children. For two years, Kamusiime has had an umbilical hernia. This causes causes her pain and if not treated, it may lead to intestinal tissue damage and death. Fortunately, on October 10, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Kamusiime's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. She says, “After surgery I will be happy and continue with my work.”

Rachana is a six year old girl from Cambodia. She has one older sister. She likes to paint and draw. He likes to eat fish with rice. Rachana has ptosis in her left eye. Ptosis occurs when the eyelid droops over the eye. She cannot see well. Rachana traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On October 1, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform an eyelid correction procedure to improve her vision. Now, Rachana needs help to raise $292 to fund this procedure. Her father says, "I want my daughter's eye to be normal."

Katamunanwire is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He is married with eight children. For over ten years, Katamunanwire has had a bilateral inguinal hernia. He cannot work or move without pain and discomfort. Fortunately, on October 2, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Katamunanwire's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Katamunanwire says, “I am worried for my life because having an operation in my old age but I hope for a good health after surgery.”

Mcleeves is a teacher in a local high school from Malawi. He has a wife and four children, with whom he enjoys spending his free time. For five months, Mcleeves has been experiencing weakness and problems urinating. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Mcleeves's surgery. On October 4, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. He says, "When my pain is over, I will be so happy to work again, teaching the students. This is a very nice program, and I am thanking God for this provision."

Ly Hour is a young man from Cambodia. He is an only child. He wants to be a doctor. He likes to read and play football. Two months ago, Ly was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture in his left arm. It is difficult for him to move and use his arm. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On October 2, Ly Hour will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $430. This procedure will help him use his arm freely again. He says, "I hope my arm doesn't hurt after the surgery and I can work."

Nov is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has a son, six daughters, and twenty grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio. Four years ago, Nov developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, photophobia, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Nov learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On October 2, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I want to go to the pagoda and take care of my grandchildren."

Seang is a silkmaker from Cambodia. She has five sons, six daughters, and 22 grandchildren. She likes to read about Buddha and spend time at the pagoda. One year ago, Seang developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, itchiness, tearing, burning, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Seang learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On October 18, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I look forward to seeing my loved ones' faces again and leading an independent life."

Kou is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has two daughters, four sons, and 11 grandchildren. A year ago, Kou developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Kou learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On October 17, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I look forward to spending time with my grandchildren."

Sey is a factory worker from Cambodia. She has two brothers and three sisters. She enjoys watching Thai films and spending time with her friends. A year ago, Sey developed a pterygium in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, irritation, itching, and photophobia. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Sey learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. Sey needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of her procedure is $201. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for October 2. She says, "I hope I have no more pterygium problems so I can continue my work as a factory worker and I can go to the farm easily by myself."

Naangayok has a bone tumor on the left proximal part of his leg. It is a benign tumor, but if it goes untreated, he could potentially have to have his leg amputated. If the tumor were to become malignant, it could be fatal. Naangayok lives in Tanzania. He is the third of five children and lives with his parents. His father works as a herder and his mother is a housewife. His father supports their entire immediate family and other relatives as well, so there is not much disposable income to cover the cost of the treatment Naangayok needs. “I am worried that eventually I’ll lose my leg. I enjoy herding my father’s cattle and one day I wish to herd my own,” said Naangayok. For $1,000, we can help Naangayok receive a wide excision of the tumor and fibula, which will allow him to live a normal, healthy life!

Brian is a cheery little boy who loves cars. In fact, he has already declared his plans to become a driver. Brian's father is no longer involved with the family, so his mother supports him and his four siblings by selling fruit at the local market. Brian was born with cervical hygroma, a malformation of the lymphatic system that causes a mass to form on the neck. If it's not treated soon, the mass could cause difficulty in breathing and swallowing. Doctors at Kijabe Hospital can remove Brian's mass through surgery. Brian's mother works hard, but she barely earns enough to support her young family, let alone pay for the specialty medical care her son needs.
