Rosa is an imaginative and playful three-year-old boy. His parents both work as garment workers. They have two children, Rosa being the youngest of the two. One of his favorite ways to spend time is playing with his toy car! Two months ago, Rosa developed a chalazion, or an inflamed cyst in his tear gland, in his right eye. This causes him to experience itchiness, irritation, discomfort, and pain. Rosa's family traveled to seek treatment from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On July 5th, surgeons will remove the cyst through a chalazion excision procedure. After recovery, Rosa's symptoms should improve, and he can return to being the playful child he is without any discomfort or further complications. His family needs help raising $210 to fund this procedure. Rosa's mother said, "I hope his eye irritation and pain stops and he feels well."

Thet is a 35 year old husband and father, who lives with his wife, son and in-laws in Mon State in Burma. Both Thet and his wife work in his uncle's grocery store, while his in laws are farmers. When he isn't working, Thet enjoys spending time with his son and reading. In November 2018, Thet started to experience tiredness when working, and frequent headaches. He also had a rapid heartbeat, and he couldn't sleep well. He went to a hospital in Mawlamyine, where he was referred to a different hospital in Yangon for further treatment. At the hospital in Yangon, Thet was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation and stenosis, which would require surgery to correct. Thet was sent home with medications to manage his condition. In March 2022, Thet went back to the hospital in Yangon, because of continuing fatigue, headaches, coughing and fever. The doctor told him they would contact him to schedule his surgery in May, but Thet never heard back from the hospital. When Thet told his neighbor about this, his neighbor gave him the phone number of a heart patient who had been helped by our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF). Thet followed up, and thanks to the assistance of Burma Children Medical Fund, he is finally scheduled for surgery to replace the valve in his heart on October 13th, at Pun Hlaing Hospital. Now Thet needs your help to fund the $1,500 to cover the cost of this surgery. "I have sold all my jewelry to pay for the cost of traveling to the hospital. I feel less stressed since I met the BCMF staff,” said Thet.

Krib is a 48-year-old farmer who is married with two sons and one daughter. When not outside on the farm with her husband, Krib likes to keep her house clean and cook for her family. On and off since she was young, Krib has experienced ear infections. These infections caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left side ear to perforate. Krib now feels ear and face pain with uncomfortable discharge and hearing loss. Krib has spent a lot of money at pharmacies for medications, but her symptoms have persisted. Krib now struggles to communicate with her family and shared that she feels embarrassed about her hearing loss. Krib traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 6th, Krib will undergo a procedure in her ear where surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is raising $487 to fund this procedure, medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Krib's husband shared, "I hope she stops having ear infections and her hearing will improve."

Abias is a single mother from Uganda. She has three children, all of whom are currently in school. She shares that she hopes her daughters will become teachers or nurses in the future. Abias and her children live with her elderly parents and her late brother's two children, meaning she is the sole income within her family. However, her current health condition is limiting her ability to do her job: small-scale farming. Abias wishes to open a shop to earn a living, pay her children's school fees, and provide for her family wholly. For the past three years, Abias has experienced pain and swelling in her abdominal area. She also experiences backaches, a lack of appetite, and general body weakness. After visiting our medical partner's care center, Nyakibale Karoli Lwanga Hospital, she was diagnosed with a large pelvic mass that requires excision. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Abias receive treatment. On August 11th, surgeons will perform a curative laparotomy to alleviate her symptoms and allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. Now, Abias needs help to fund this $242 procedure. Abias says, “I hope after my operation I will get better. I wish to continue with farming to provide for my family and work hard to make sure my children achieve their dreams.”

Somnang is a 17-year-old fisherman. He has one brother and two sisters, and his father is also a fisherman. In his free time, Somnang enjoys swimming, playing football, and meeting with his friends to go for a walk. A year ago, Somnang was in an accident while steering his fishing boat at sea, injuring his left knee. Prior to the accident, Somnang had noticed a growth on this knee, but since the accident, the mass has increased in size, and it causes him pain. Somnang's neighbor suggested that he travel to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, to see if they could help. Now doctors have diagnosed a benign tumor on his leg, which needs to be removed. On June 8th, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a tumor excision, which will enable Somnang to live without pain and discomfort in his leg. Now, Children's Surgical Centre is seeking $673 to fund his medical care and procedure. Somnang says: "I am really hoping after this surgery my knee is healed and I can fish again."

Chouliya is an eight-year-old student from Cambodia who is in second grade. To support their family, her mother sells goods at a local market, and her father works as a construction worker. Chouliya enjoys studying Khmer in school. She also loves spending time playing games with her sister. Her favorite meal is roast duck with cold milk. For the past two years, Chouliya has been experiencing a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. Her mother shares that she also snores every night. Her family sought treatment from a private clinic, but Chouliya's condition unfortunately still has not improved. She often experiences fevers, inflammation, and a lack of appetite. She was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids. If her condition is left untreated, her symptoms will persist and possibly intensify over time. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is helping Chouliya receive treatment. On July 12th, surgeons at CSC will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Chouliya of her symptoms and helping her live more comfortably. Now, she and her family need help raising $265 to fund her procedure and care. Chouliya's mother shares, "I hope that her sore throat goes away and she has a better appetite."

Edith is a 49-year-old mother from Kenya. To support their four children, she works as a homemaker, and her husband works as a driver. She shares that her husband earns enough to support their family's basic needs. As Edith does her family chores, she enjoys socializing with friends and neighbors. Two months ago, Edith began to experience troubling symptoms, including neck swelling. After seeking medical attention at a hospital, she was diagnosed with thyroid hyperplasia, a condition that leads to thyroid enlargement. In order to alleviate her symptoms and prevent them from worsening, she must undergo thyroid surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Edith receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on August 15th at our medical partner's care center. During this procedure, surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. The surgery will cost $657, which she and her family need help raising. Edith shares, “The doctor said that with this surgery, this problem will be solved. I kindly request help so that I can be operated on soon. I also pray that the surgery will go on well.”

Primer is a father of three from Haiti. He lives in a small village in southwestern Haiti with his wife and three children; he is a farmer and sells produce in the local market. Primer has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the four valves of his heart is severely damaged as the result of a rheumatic infection he suffered a number of years ago, and cannot adequately pump blood through his heart and body. The surgery that Primer needs is not available anywhere in the country so he will fly to Dominican Republic to receive treatment. On September 13th, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will remove the damaged valve and implant an artificial replacement. Haiti Cardiac Alliance is contributing $9000 to pay for surgery. Primer's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also covers travel expenses for the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Primer's family overseas, as well as the cost of obtaining Prince's passport. Prince says: "I am very grateful to be having this surgery so I can take care of my family and see my children grow up."

Caleb is a young, four-year-old boy with one older sibling. His family currently lives in a one-roomed rental house made of iron sheeting in Nairobi County in Kenya. Caleb's mother is the sole breadwinner of the family, cleaning clothes in the neighborhood. Caleb has clubfoot on both feet, which doctors informed his mother after delivery immediately, but Caleb did not receive care due to a lack of referrals. Now, four years later, his mother heard about our medical partner's care center, CURE hospital, through a friend whose son had been treated at CURE. She was convinced to visit the hospital for possible treatment. Fortunately, Caleb's family traveled to visit CURE International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on August 2nd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,286 to fund Caleb's clubfoot repair. After treatment, Caleb will be free from pain when walking and able to wear shoes comfortably. “I am appealing for help for my son to undergo surgery. I will be grateful to see him walking without struggle like others," Caleb's mother said.

Nancy is a middle-aged mother from Kawaida village in Kenya. She separated from her husband and has been raising their two children on her own. Her daughter is married and her son lives with Nancy but has not started working yet. Nancy works jobs when she can find them, such as helping in the neighboring tea farms or washing clothes, to support her family. Nancy loves singing at her church, but now her condition forces her to remain indoors and in bed. Five years ago, Nancy began experiencing worrying symptoms. She has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $755 to fund Nancy's surgery. On July 2nd, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Nancy will be able to resume her daily activities free from pain. Nancy is eager to recover so she can continue her working and pursuing her musical passion: “If this bleeding continues I feel like it will be more challenging for me to continue working for my family. My children look unto me and so I really hope for help so that I can be well again, take care of them and be able to sing as I used to do."

Puthy is a 20-year-old factory worker and the eldest in his family. He has three siblings, two brothers, and one sister. Both of his parents are farmers. In December 2020, Puthy was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a closed fracture of his left tibia. After the accident, he was treated with Khmer traditional medicine for one month, but his condition did not improve. Puthy's neighbor suggested he go to Children's Surgical Centre to seek care. Currently, it is difficult for him to walk, and his leg is very swollen. Puthy is in chronic pain and feels very unwell. His family is especially worried about his condition because is the breadwinner of the family. While he has been in the hospital, his family has lost their income and they will not be able to work while he recovers. Puthy and his family appeal for financial support. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On February 2nd, Puthy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will help him walk again and return to work to support his family. Puthy shared, "I hope that after surgery my left tibia will be fixed and I will feel better. I am looking forward to having no more pain and infection, and to walking and working as I did before."

Di is a 40-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her parents, her husband, her brother, and her two children in Mae La Refugee Camp in Tak Province. Di and her family work hard to make ends meet. Her family runs a small shop selling kitchen utensils. Di's husband is a religious teacher, and he does not earn regular income. Her brother is unemployed, and her parents are retired. Di helps with the family shop while her daughter goes to the community school that is led by volunteers. Her youngest son is too young to go to school. She shared that their family income is enough for family expenses, but they are not able to save any money. Around two years ago, Di was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. Currently, she experiences pain under her chest and her abdominal around umbilical is swollen and pain. Di is not able to do any household chores because of her condition. The pain worsens after she has meals or constipation, and her stomach will feel as hard as a stone. Fortunately, on January 19th, Di will undergo hernia repair surgery at Mae Sot General Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Di's hernia repair surgery. Once completed, the procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and be well enough to care for her family. Di shared, “Once I am better, I will try my best to take care of my family and my children's education. I want them to study in Thai school. They need to be educated, so I need to be healthy."
