Kamusiime is a 37-year-old woman from Uganda who has experienced progressive neck swelling for five years. This has affected her work performance as a small-scale farmer. She is having a hard time breathing and swallowing and no longer sleeps comfortably. If not treated, Kamusiime may suffer respiratory difficulties and develop hyperthyroidism, an overactive thyroid. Kamusiime previously visited a hospital and was advised to have surgery, but she could not afford it. Fortunately, she heard about Watsi from her friends. Kamusiime was diagnosed with a goiter, an enlarged thyroid. On November 2, she will undergo a thyroidectomy, an operation removing part or all of the thyroid. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, requests $240 to help fund the treatment. Kamusiime says, “I hope to continue with cultivation after surgery, as I will be having peace of mind and no pain."

Komushana is a 59-year-old mother from Uganda. She is married with seven children, who all have their own families. Both Komushana and her husband work as small scale farmers. About one year ago, Komushana noticed a mass growing in her neck. Hearing about Watsi through our medical partner's care center, she decided to seek treatment. At the hospital, Komushana was diagnosed with a goiter and was recommended for thyroidectomy surgery. On August 3, Komushana will undergo surgery to remove part of her thyroid gland. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is asking for $240 to cover the cost of her treatment. “After surgery, I hope to be relieved of this condition and I continue with farming together with my husband,” says Komushana.

Rose is a 15-year-old young woman from Kenya. In 2015, she was brought to New Beginning’s Children’s Center, an orphanage, after being found experiencing homelessness. Rose is both unable to hear and speak. Rose was evaluated by one of our medical partner's surgeons, who determined she needed ear drops to improve her condition. She has also been recommended for ear surgery as further treatment. On August 16, Rose will undergo surgery at our medical partner's care center, AIC Kijabe Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is asking for $591 to cover the cost of her treatment. After surgery, Rose will be able to improve her schooling!

Evelyne is a 15-year-old girl from Uganda who is expecting her first child. She lives with her mother and five siblings, and enjoys singing in her church choir. Because of Evelyne's age, doctors consider her pregnancy to be high-risk. They recommend that she receive medical attention before, during, and after labor to ensure a safe delivery. Starting June 20, she will begin to receive supplements and attend prenatal check-ups and health education classes. She will deliver her baby in the hospital, and will be monitored after her delivery to ensure that she and her baby are safe. Although Evelyne's family is able to contribute $7 to the cost of her care, our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, is requesting $241 to fund the rest of Evelyne's pregnancy care. “Thank you for helping my daughter. There are many of us at home to feed and we did not have the money for a hospital delivery. Now I know my daughter will be taken care of.” Evelyne's mother says.

Sum is a woman from Cambodia. She has two sons, two daughters, and 20 grandchildren. She likes to go to the pagoda to listen to monks pray in her free time. Five years ago, Sum developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, tearing, photophobia, and cloudy lenses. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Sum learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 13, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now,she needs help to fund this $398 procedure.

Pamera is a 25-year-old mother expecting her third child. Because she gave birth to her second child through a C-section, Pamera's doctors consider her pregnancy to be high-risk. They recommend that she receive medical attention before, during, and after labor to ensure a safe delivery. On January 14, she will begin to receive supplements and attend antenatal checkups and health education classes. She will deliver her baby in the hospital, and she will undergo a C-section if necessary. After birth, Pamera and her baby will be monitored by the hospital staff. Pamera's treatment will cost $241. She has already contributed $4 of her own money. As a mother, one of Pamera's biggest hopes is to put her three children through school. She loves playing ball and attending church on Sundays with her family, and she believes God has a plan for all of her children. “I thank all the donors for the good thing they are doing for people who can’t afford hospital fees," says Pamera. "Praise God for them."

Hser Paw is a bright 21-year-old student from Burma. At a young age, she moved away from her village to pursue her dreams as a medic. Unfortunately, Hser Paw recently halted her studies due to challenges with her health. In late November of 2016, Hser Paw felt tingling and numbness in her left leg. A week later, the symptoms spread to the entire left side of her body. These symptoms made her normal day-to-day activities a challenge. Hser Paw was referred to our medical partner's care center, Mae Sot General Hospital, where she will undergo a full-body CT scan on December 9. The results of the scan will help her physicians diagnose the issue, which they believe is neurological. Our medical partner is requesting $414 to fund this diagnostic test. Hser Paw says, “I want to recover and continue my studies as a medic."
