In addition to the persistent dislocations, Putrea's condition makes it difficult for him to bend his legs, move around, and keep up with his siblings and classmates. Putrea's condition can be remedied with a muscular surgery but his family cannot afford the cost of the operation. Pedro is a hard-working young man from a remote area of Guatemala. A number of years ago, he lost his right arm below the elbow in an explosive accident at his job, and has since found his life very limited. Most job opportunities in Pedro’s area are physically intensive so his condition has made it very difficult for him to find work. Given his remote location and lack of medical infrastructure in Guatemala, Pedro has never been able to afford access to a prosthetics clinic.
