Ebenezer is a seven-month-old baby boy from Burundi. As his mother shared the journey that brought them to the hospital, little Ebenezer slept peacefully on her back, calm and unaware of everything happening around him. Ebenezer is the firstborn child in his family. According to his mother, the first days and weeks of motherhood have been far from what she had hoped. She has spent nights awake beside him, facing hospital stays, uncertainty, and the constant fear that his condition could become more serious. She and Ebenezer's father have remained hopeful despite their son's health challenges. The couple work as small-scale farmers to support their family. Soon after his birth, Ebenezer began to experience troubling symptoms, including an inability to pass stool, and his abdomen began to swell. His mother became deeply worried. She took him to a hospital where he was admitted and received treatment, but despite the efforts of the medical team, his condition did not improve. Eventually, the family was referred to our medical partner's care center, Kibuye Hope Hospital, for specialized care. Ebenezer has been diagnosed with Hirschpung disease, a congenital condition where a baby is born missing specific nerve cells in parts of the large intestine, leading to severe bowel blockages. Physicians recommend a laparotomy, which is a surgery that opens up the abdominal cavity to treat his condition. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $467 to fund Ebenezer's surgery. On September 22nd, he will undergo a laparotomy procedure at Kibuye Hope Hospital, allowing him a healthier life. Ebenezer’s mother shared, "Thank you to everyone who has supported us. We could never afford this treatment on our own, and our child needs care before his condition becomes more serious. May God bless everyone helping us and give us the chance to smile again with a healthy child."

Brillant is a two-year-old boy from Burundi. His mother is a single mother who farms and sells vegetables in the market to support her three children. One year and nine months ago, Brillant was diagnosed with a left inguinal hernia, a swelling in a sensitive part of his body. He cries often, unable to explain how he feels. He cannot play, run, or sleep through the night. He needs surgery to address his symptoms and prevent them from getting worse. Fortunately, on October 2nd, Brillant will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center, Kibuye Hope Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $197 to fund Brillant's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Brillant's mother shared, “I have no one else to ask. I work every day, but I cannot earn what the hospital needs. Please help my Brillant. Help me give him this surgery so he can grow like other children. I cannot watch him suffer anymore.”

Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $197 to fund Reponse's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Reponse's mother shared, "I have nothing left but my prayers and my two boys. I stay up every night listening to them cry from the pain. Please help my twins. Help me give them the surgery so they can grow up without pain."

About five months ago, Eddy was diagnosed with a bilateral inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue or intestines bulge through weak spots in the lower abdominal wall on both the left and right sides of the groin. This causes him a lot of pain. Fortunately, on October 13th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center, Kibuye Hope Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $197 to fund Eddy's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Eddy's mother said, "I honestly don’t know yet where we will find this money. If you are able to help us, it would be a great privilege for our family. We truly need this support. Athia is a calm two-year-old girl from Burundi. When she first arrived at the hospital, she stayed close to her father and eventually fell asleep in his arms. She is the second-born child in a family of three children. Since the day she was born, her father noticed that a small area on her back looked different. The skin was darker than the rest, but at first, the family did not know what it meant. After Athia turned one, however, the area began to swell. Over time, it grew larger, eventually covering a significant part of her lower back. What had once been a small and uncertain concern had become a large mass that required specialized medical attention. Athia's father has traveled through several hospitals, with no curative treatment. He left Athia’s mother and their other children, and traveled with his daughter in search of the care she needs. The distance has been difficult, and the long hours of waiting have tested their patience. He brought her to Kibuye Hope Hospital, where doctors advised that the mass would need to be removed, and a skin graft applied. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Athia receive treatment. On September 16th, surgeons will perform a skin graft procedure to help her begin her journey towards healing and enable her to laugh freely, play without worry, grow with confidence, and dream about her future. Now, Athia needs help to fund this $375 procedure. Athia’s father said, "Since arriving here, I have been touched by the warm welcome and guidance we have received. I am truly grateful for the help given to my daughter. Before coming here, I had taken her to several hospitals in Bujumbura, which cost our family almost everything we had. I came here without knowing what kind of help we would receive, but by God’s grace, we have found hope. I pray that the journey ahead will be just as good."

Like most families in the area, their calendar is simple: plant, wait for rain, harvest, and hope it is enough. About one year ago, King was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia. His mother noticed a swelling that would appear, then disappear after a while. They visited nearby health centers and were given medicines for King to take, but the symptoms persisted. Fortunately, on September 14th, King will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center, Kibuye Hope Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $197 to fund King's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. King's father shared, "We are still young, new in marriage, and the struggles always feel bigger than us. If you have nothing to sell, with our daily life, it’s hard. That’s why it would be such a joy for us to receive this help. God will repay you. We don’t have much, but we have hope. Please help our child get healed."

Eve Christa is a joyful 11-month-old baby girl baby girl from Burundi. When her older twin brothers were born, her parents hoped for one more child, a little girl to complete their family. When Eve Christa was born, it felt like a miracle. For seven months, Eve Christa developed as a healthy, calm baby girl. Her brothers adored her. One day, Eve Christa's mother left her for a few hours with a trusted neighbor, so she could go to the market. Eve Christa was seven months old. Upon returning back home, she found her daughter severely burned. Her neighbor shared that there was an accident in the kitchen and Eve Christa sustained the burns from boiling hot water. Eve Christa's mother rushed her to the hospital, where she was admitted for several days. She was in pain and even with medication, she would scream through the night. Her mother slept beside her, holding her hand and praying for the pain to go away. When the wounds began to heal, the doctors shared more heartbreaking news; the severe burns had caused contractures on Eve Christa's hands. Her skin had tightened, and her fingers could not move properly. She struggles to crawl and grab toys, but it's difficult, given her condition. She still experiences pain due to the condition. A specialist advised that Eve Christa needed to undergo a contracture release and a skin graft, so her hands could regain function. The news worried Eve Christa's parents. Her mother is a homemaker, while her father works casual jobs to help sustain the family. His income is often not enough for their living expenses. One of Eve Christa’s older twin brother also has hearing problems, that needs treatment that the family cannot afford. Fortunately, our medical partner, is helping Eve Christa receive treatment. On August 18th, surgeons will perform a skin graft procedure to release the contractures, so her fingers can move again. This will give her a chance to use her hands to play, eat, and even write one day. Now, Eve Christa's family needs help to fund this $375 procedure. Eve Christa's mother said, “Please, I am sincerely seeking your support. I do not have a job, and my husband’s modest income is only enough for food. Christa was born healthy, but now cannot use her hands due to the burns. Please help my baby girl so she can get relief from the pain."
