Kemirembe is a 55-year-old widow and a mother of five children—three boys and two girls. In her free time, she farms and cultivates food to nourish herself.
About two years ago, Kemirembe developed swelling near her stomach that came and went. When the swelling started causing her pain, she decided to visit a nearby clinic and was given painkillers. When the medicine didn’t help, her neighbor, whose son had surgery through Watsi, advised her to come to our medical partner’s hospital, Holy Family Virika Hospital, for a checkup.
While at Virika, Kemirembe was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia and was advised to have surgery. If not treated, Kemirembe may sustain intestinal tissue damage due to hernia twisting and blocking. Fortunately, her procedure is scheduled for July 19. The surgery will cost $249.
Kemirembe looks forward to being able to return to farming and feeling comfortable going out in public again.
