Farhia is a bright 12-year-old girl from Tanzania, hailing from a close-knit family of four children. Her mother runs a small cooking business near a construction site, serving meals to workers and local residents. Additionally, she crafts and sells homemade spices.
Farhia was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus, a condition in which legs bow outward such that knees do not touch. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. In addition to her difficulty walking, Farhia experiences pain after covering any considerable distance.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $810 to fund treatment for Farhia. The treatment is scheduled to begin on November 6th at our medical partner’s care center, Kafika House. This will hopefully restore Farhia’s mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications.
Farhia expresses her desire, saying, “I wish for the pain to disappear; I want to walk comfortably and enjoy attending school.”
