Samnang is a bright and creative 11-year-old student. He is in 5th grade and has lived in an orphanage since he was born. Samnang enjoys playing football and drawing pictures.
When he was born, Samnang developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision and difficulty recognizing people. He also has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going outside on his own.
When Samnang’s caretakers learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled there hoping for his treatment. On January 4th, doctors will perform lensectomy and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $229 to fund Samnang’s procedure.
Samnang shared, “I hope my eye can see clearly after surgery so I can read, write, play football with my friends, and do well in school.”

Samnang underwent sight-restoring surgery.
Samnang was afraid of going to a hospital but knew his eyesight was getting worse. After his surgery, he could see faces and brighter colors. He has to rest for several days and use prescription eye drops to reduce the chance of infection. The doctors look forward to seeing him again in a few months to check his eyesight. He looks forward to working hard in school and hopes to continue on to university.
Samnang said: “After living with bad vision, I felt joy at being able to see well. I can be outside and play with my friends and read books better. Thank you for your help.”
