Melvin is an eight-day-old baby from Kenya and the youngest of four siblings. His father is a street vendor and his mother is a housewife. Melvin was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition which his parents were previously not familiar with.
Hydrocephalus, an increase in intracranial pressure due to cerebral-spinal fluid accumulation, is treatable. Melvin’s family depends on the income his father makes for their day-to-day needs and they are unable to pay for the cost of treatment. If Melvin does not receive care, he may be susceptible to blindness or brain damage. “All I pray for is to see my son in good health,” Melvin’s mother says.
For $980, Melvin will receive the shunt incision needed to drain this excess fluid and prevent further brain damage. Let’s help baby Melvin get a healthy start to life.
