Banabus is 10 years old and a Primary Four student from Uganda. He is the oldest of three children. His parents practice small-scale farming on a small piece of land, using it to provide food for their home consumption and sell any surplus to support their children.
Banabus has been unwell with an on-and-off scrotal swelling that began when he was five years old. At that time, he was taken to a clinic where he was given painkillers that reduced the pain but did not resolve the swelling. The family also visited a hospital, but was unable to receive help due to financial constraints.
Banabus often complains of pain after school, which has prevented him from playing and socializing with other students. His mother is worried that the condition may affect his ability to have children in the future. Banabus’ mother learned about our medical partner’s care center, Rwibaale Health Center. Banabus was diagnosed with a right scrotal hydrocele. The doctor recommended a hydrocelectomy to relieve the pain and prevent further complications. However, Banabus’s mother explained that they are unable to afford the hospital bills for the surgery.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. On October 7th, Banabus will undergo surgery, which will alleviate his symptoms and allow him to live more comfortably. His family needs help to raise $210 for his procedure and care.
Banabus’ mother says,’’ I hope my son will get rid of the pain and resume studying after recovery’’
