Janipher is a 39-year-old woman from Uganda. She and her husband have five children - two boys and three girls. Janipher grew up as the oldest child of three and studied up to Primary Six before needing to leave school due to financial constraints. Janipher and her husband practice small-scale farming to provide food and income for their family.
For twenty years, Janipher has been living with an epigastric hernia and an umbilical hernia. Initially, the swellings she felt from the hernias were painless, but over time, they have become increasingly painful and have significantly affected her daily activities. She is unable to bend comfortably, wash clothes, or carry out farming, making it difficult for her to contribute to her family’s livelihood and causing her great distress.
Fortunately, a friend advised her to attend a surgical outreach program organized by our medical partner’s hospital, Rwibaale Hospital. Following a medical examination, she was diagnosed and informed she needs to undergo a herniorrhaphy to relieve her pain and improve her quality of life.
Our medical partner is helping Janipher receive the treatment she needs to live more comfortably and confidently. On June 9th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at Rwibaale Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $234 to fund Janipher’s surgery.
Janipher said, “I hope to at least wash my clothes after surgery.”
