Meet Hikmat, a 16-year-old boy from Nepal. “He lives with his parents, two brothers, and two sisters,” shares our medical partner, Possible. “Hikmat enjoys reading Nepali stories in school and loves to play football with his siblings.”
Two weeks ago, Hikmat developed a painful abscess on his neck. A abscess occurs when a confined pocket of pus collects in tissues, organs, or spaces inside the body. “The area hurts and also causes fevers at night,” Possible explains.
Hikamat went with his cousin to Possible’s hospital for treatment. With $220, “Hikamat’s abscess will be drained and a hygienic dressing will be used to ensure the wound heals properly. His fever and pain are expected to go down,” Possible explains.

Immediately post-treatment, Hikmat is “free of pus and fever,” shares our medical partner, Possible. “The pain Hikmat is feeling will gradually subside over the next two weeks.”
“He will need a hygienic dressing everyday until the wound dries completely,” Possible adds. “Given that Hikmat’s wound had developed extensively, it will take longer than usual to heal. He needs to be careful about not missing any wound dressing to avoid the likelihood of an infection.”
“The treatment has drained Hikmat’s energy but he is looking forward to return home to his family,” Hikmat’s cousin told the staff at Possible. “He wants to just lay down and rest in his own house for now.”
