Agneda is a shy seven-year-old girl from Tanzania. She has been diagnosed with Hirschprung’s disease, a disorder where parts of the large intestine lack nerves, causing obstructions which inhibit the normal processes of passing stool. Agneda currently uses a colostomy bag to pass stool, but she needs surgery to fully correct her condition.
Over the past five years, Agneda’s father has taken her to several different hospitals seeking treatment, but none of them could help. Agneda’s father left his job to care for her, and as a result cannot afford to pay for the surgery she needs.
“We have lost hope,” says Agneda’s father. “All we would like is for our daughter to get better.” For $1,200, we can fund Agneda’s surgery and enable her to lead a healthy life.

Agneda received surgery to be able to pass stool properly.
Although Agneda’s operation was delayed due to her poor nutritional status, when it was possible to perform the operation, it was a success! Agneda is now able eat and defecate without any problems. She can now enjoy a normal childhood, free of worries and embarrassment.
After losing hope, Agneda’s parents are thankful that their daughter has been able to receive surgery. “We are very happy to see our daughter able to eat well and she no longer complains of stomach ache,” they told our medical partner, Africa Mission Healthcare Foundation.
