The lovely Anani is a nine-month old baby girl from Guatemala who has been suffering from near constant seizures since birth. These seizures are interfering with her growth and development, so much so that both her motor and verbal development are very delayed. Anani’s parents want the very best for her, and hope she may have the “same chances that our other children have, to grow up healthy,” they tell us.
“They came to us by word of mouth,” our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, explains, “they’ve heard great things from other families with developmentally delayed children about how amazing the Watsi-sponsored program is in terms of turning around these cases and producing great results.”
“There is some urgency to this case because Anani is in a critical window where, if we can fix this problem, her brain potential is probably still preserved and she can rebound from the delays that she has had,” says Wuqu Kawoq.
With our partner’s great track record of helping children such as Anani, acute seizure treatment is expected to control her seizures, thereby allowing her to develop normally. $745 is all it takes to get Anani the treatment she needs to regulate her seizures and improve her quality of life!

Anani received treatment for seizures.
“Anani is doing much better,” shares her doctor at Wuqu’ Kawoq. “As we had previously updated donors, she was born having seizures basically constantly. Now, with seizure medications she is having seizures just a couple of times a week. This is not ideal, and we are still working on it, but at least things are better so that she is starting to develop motor skills and eating better. Her growth is much improved.”
“She is still very delayed, and we are getting her going with ongoing physical therapy,” Anani’s doctor continues. “We are also continuing to make adjustments to her medications with the goal of getting her completely seizure free. We’ll keep following along and helping her out for many more months to come.”
Anani’s mother is grateful for the care and persistence of the healthcare team. She now has hope that her baby can grow up normally.
