Peris is a 58-year-old mother of five (and grandmother of a few more!) who sells fruits and vegetables at her local market in Kenya. Her husband is a farmer, and their tight-knit family lives together in the same homestead, supporting each other however they can.
A few months ago, Peris stepped on a rusty nail. The wound never quite healed, and she now has second degree sepsis, which our medical partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation describes as “infection in and swelling of her right foot, which without surgery will likely result in gangrene.” Her children have no formal employment, and when Peris and her husband consistently work they make just enough to support their family’s basic needs. However, as a result of the pain in her foot, Peris has had difficulty working.
Peris’ son confides, “I wish to see my mother get better and watch her grandchildren grow up. She is still very young, and we want to see her live like she used to!”
For $1,500, we can help make the dreams of Peris and her family come true. With our support, Peris will receive a below-the-knee amputation of her right foot, which will prevent the spread of her infection. Let’s help Peris create a lifetime of memories with her family!
