Aaliya is a three-year-old girl who lives in Tanzania with her single mother and her sibling. Her mother makes and sells snacks by the roadside. Earlier this year, Aaliya was burned on her chest and left arm by hot tea while in the kitchen. She was taken to the nearest medical center and received first aid and medication to use at home. While at home, her aunt helped with her dressings to keep her wound dry and clean. However, they did not have enough money for hospital care. Despite their efforts at home, there was no improvement in her wound, and Aaliya continued to have frequent fevers. Aaliya was referred to our medical partner's care center and doctors determined she needs a skin graft to facilitate the healing process. On July 9th, Aaliya will undergo surgery and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $693 to fund this procedure. Aaliya’s mother says,“I just can’t wait for the wounds on my daughter’s body to heal, she has been through a lot and I feel sorry for her.”

Samai lives with his wife and three daughters in Kratie province in Cambodia. He and his wife make Khmer rice noodles to sell. His eldest daughter, aged 13, dropped out of school after grade six to help her parents with the noodle business. His other two daughters, aged 10 and seven, are still in primary school. In his free time, Samai enjoys watching the news on his phone. On August 11th, 2024, Samai had a motor accident that caused trauma to his right leg. He was taken to a referral hospital in Kratie province, where doctors recommended surgery. However, due to financial difficulties, he sought traditional treatment instead. Now, Samai experiences hip pain that makes it difficult for him to sit, and his right leg is stiff during internal rotation. He currently relies on crutches to walk. Samai traveled for two hours to visit our medical partner, the Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). On October 10th, surgeons will perform an open reduction procedure on his right hip to correct the dislocation and relieve his pain. Samai can only afford $100 for his care and needs assistance with the remaining $385 to fund his surgery. After treatment, he will be able to walk independently and more comfortably, improving his mobility and quality of life. Samai said: "I hope that after the surgery, I can walk without crutches and return to helping my wife without pain."

Christopher is a one-year-old infant from Haiti, deeply loved by his single mother. Christopher was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition where excess cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain, causing increased pressure. This has led to a rapid increase in Christopher's head size, and, without urgent treatment, he faces the risk of severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for Christopher at Hospital Bernard Mevs, the only site in the country where this care is available. The procedure, scheduled for August 27th, will drain the excess fluid from his brain, relieving the intracranial pressure and significantly improving his quality of life. With proper treatment, Christopher will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Christopher's mother shared, " I look forward to seeing Christopher thrive and live a healthy, happy life."
