Elizabeth is a sweet three-year-old girl from Uganda and the only child in her family. Her parents hope to have more children but want to first ensure they can care for Elizabeth’s health needs. Her parents practice farming and own a three-room mud house for shelter.
Elizabeth was born with a gluteal mass on her right side that has gradually increased in size over time. She has had three gluteal cystectomies at Rushoroza Hospital, and after doing a scan, the doctors have now recommended a mass excision. The mass is not painful for Elizabeth, but she cannot sit comfortably, and there is concern that the mass may continue to increase in size if not treated in a timely manner.
Elizabeth and her family traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On October 21st, surgeons will remove the mass. Elizabeth’s family is raising $145 to fund this procedure.
Elizabeth’s mother says, “I am concerned that the swelling could increase in size and grow bigger if not treated. After complete recovery, Elizabeth will be able to sit with ease and be able to play with her friends.’’
