Chen is a 7-year-old second grade student. He lives with his parents and his three-year-old brother in Svay Rieng province. His father is a rice farmer and his mother stays home to care for the children. At school, he loves to learn about mathematics and read story books. When not studying, he likes to play football with his friend and his youngest brother. His favorite meal is fried chicken.
Ten days ago, while he playing with his friend at home, a nut or seed was inserted in his right ear. He now has pain, ringing in his ear, and loss of hearing.
Chen’s family traveled to our medical partner’s care center, Children’s Surgical Centre, to receive treatment. On January 4th, surgeons there will remove the mass. Now, they need help to raise $273 to fund this procedure.
His father said, “I hope his hearing will be ok again and he won’t have any pain.”

Chen underwent surgery on his ear so the he can be pain-free and hear again.
After several attempts, Chen had the nut removed from his right ear. Fortunately, he did not permanently damage his eardrum. He rested at the hospital overnight, then was able to return to his province with his parents. He was given drops to reduce any chance of infection and learned it is not a good idea to put anything in his ear. He can return to school with his hearing restored; his parents are relieved he will no longer be in pain.
Chen’s father said: “We are happy that we know this place for treatment for our son. The staff was very kind to him, and he can hear again. Thank you to everyone who took care of him.”
