Kailoni is a 63-year-old man from Kenya. He is the father of six children and used to be a game warden at a community ranch in Kajiado, Kenya. However, he lost his job after developing vision problems and has had to rely on his wife to support the family. Kailoni has children in school and relies on bursaries to pay for their school fees.
Towards the end of 2016, Kailoni began to notice that he was experiencing gradual vision loss. In the beginning of 2017, his vision loss increased and he had to stop working as a warden. When he first visited the doctor, his cataract was not found. Through his local pastor, Kailoni was referred to Kijabe Hospital, our medical partner’s care center. Upon consultation, his cataract was detected and surgery was recommended.
On September 18, Kailoni will undergo cataract removal surgery in his left eye. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has requested $220 to fund Kailoni’s surgery. This will cover the full cost of treatment, including supplies, medication, labs, and surgeon time. His family has also provided $42 to contribute to the cost of the surgery. Kailoni hopes “to have his sight restored and be able to live a normal life…and continue providing for [his] family.”
