Harin is a seven-year-old student from Cambodia. He has two siblings and is the middle child in a family from Kampong Cham province. His older sister is 13 years old and studies in the eighth grade, while his younger brother is three years old. Harin’s father works in construction, and his mother is a farmer who works at a rubber tree plantation. Harin is in grade two, loves Khmer subjects, and dreams of becoming a doctor when he grows up. In his free time, he enjoys playing football with friends in the village and has a passion for all kinds of meat, especially chicken.
For the past four years, Harin has been experiencing difficulty swallowing, trouble breathing, and frequent throat and ear infections. This disrupts his sleep because he snores, causes discomfort when he tries to eat, and affects his learning at school because speaking and reading are challenging for him. Harin was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Harin, which is scheduled to take place on August 1st. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Harin of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably.
Harin’s mother shared: “After surgery, I hope that my son will be able to sleep comfortably and do a good job at school.”
