Esther is a 21-year-old woman from Kenya, married with two children. Her firstborn is four years old, while her second born is only four months old. Esther is a home maker, while her husband works as a casual laborer in nearby tea farms.
Four years ago, Esther began to experience troubling symptoms, including a small swelling on her neck. The swelling has progressively increased in size, eventually becoming large and visible. Due to the family’s financial situation, she did not seek medical attention at an early stage.
As the swelling continued to grow, she decided to seek medical help at our medical partner’s care center, Nazareth Hospital. An ultrasound scan and thyroid function tests were performed. She was diagnosed with multinodular goiter, an enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Esther receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on June 4th where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $633, and she and her family need help raising the funds.
“I am a mother of two young children. I will be so happy to receive support for my treatment, so that I can be able to continue supporting my family,” said Esther.
