Joyce is a 40-year-old woman from Kenya. She is married with four children, all of whom are in school. Joyce and her husband are not formally employed, and together they rely on small-scale farming to sustain their family.
In 2024, Joyce began to experience troubling symptoms, including a swelling on the right side of her neck. Over time, the swelling continued to grow, and she recently began experiencing difficulty swallowing.
She sought medical care at Nazareth Hospital, where several tests were conducted. She was diagnosed with a right nodular goiter. If left untreated, the swelling may continue to enlarge and could lead to complications such as thyrotoxicosis. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Joyce receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on June 15th where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $633, and she and her family need help raising money.
“My children need my care, but we do not have money for this surgery. I kindly request for support so that I can be treated and be able to take care of my family,” Joyce said.
