Pricilla is a 68-year-old small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a widow and a mother of ten children, though sadly only four are alive. She is also taking care of her twin grandchildren. She shared that she has faced many challenges, but she is glad that her grandchildren can help her around the home. For several years, Pricilla has been experiencing severe lower abdominal pain and other uncomfortable symptoms. In the past, she visited a health center where she was given medication that helped briefly, but later, her symptoms worsened, particularly when straining. She has been diagnosed with uterine prolapse and she has had to stop farming due to her condition. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Pricilla receive treatment. On January 18th, she will undergo a hysterectomy, or a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Once recovered, Pricilla will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Now, she needs help raising $319 to fund her procedure and care. Pricilla shared, "I pray that I may get well through surgery because I can no longer do anything on my own and my survival is at risk. I hope to continue with farming after recovery."

Meet Zephania, a jovial, 34 year old farmer, living in the highlands of Kenya with his wife and three children. Zephania has a small piece of land, on which he plants maize and potatoes, mainly for his family's consumption. He dropped out of high school early because his family could not afford to cover the necessary fees. He has been a casual laborer working on people's farms, clearing bushes and carrying loads, in order to earn a living. His wife is not working currently, as she is expecting a child. Zephania was involved in an accident while riding his motorbike. When he arrived at the hospital, he was unable to stand or to walk, and he complained of a lot of pain in his left leg. Upon examination, it was revealed that his leg had been shortened, and there was also some swelling of the limb. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, can help. On January 10th, Zephania will undergo a fracture repair procedure at AIC Kapsowar Hospital. As a result of this surgery, called an open reduction and internal fixation, Zephania will no longer be in pain; his leg will heal, and he will be able to return to work and to provide for his family. Now, African Mission Healthcare Foundation is requesting $1,145 to fund this procedure. Zephania says: "My family depends on me for their daily needs, so it is really difficult for them. I don’t want to see them struggle when I am living.”

Souty is a 14-year-old student from Cambodia. He has three brothers and one sister. He lives with his siblings, his grandfather, and his mother in Kampong Cham province. His father works in Thailand in a factory and sends money home to support the family. Souty attends public school and enjoys playing football with his friends. Since Souty was a small child, he has not been able to hear out of his right ear. For three years, he has also had frequent fevers and ear discharge from his left ear, due to an ear infection. The infection caused the tympanic membrane (the ear drum) in his left ear to perforate. Souty suffers from almost total hearing loss because of the poor hearing in his right ear combined with the problems in his left ear. This makes it difficult for him to attend school or understand the teacher. He shared that he feels embarrassed and has been held back in school for several years. Souty and his mother traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On November 22nd, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $487 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Souty's mother said: "Souty wants to go to school and be like other boys. I hope he can get his hearing back so he can communicate well with others."
